My wife and I have been noodling with this for awhile. Home security, Ring doorbell, etc. At some point I realized that I really just wanted cameras with some flexible settings and I did not want wires or anything that was tricky to install. I ended up with THESE after Stain (blueboard) mentioned setting them up and how much he liked them. They run on a 10000 mAh battery that can [supposedly] last 3-6 months. There are multiple ways to mount the cameras, they connect to your wifi, they can record to a microSD card or a cloud storage (I got cards for mine) and you can dictate how sensitive the motion sensor is and how long video is recorded for. I ended up with three of these. Front door, driveway, backyard. They record in 1080P HD and there is also a mic and a speaker for conversations as well. Adding on [if necessary] would be easy. Between the animals and also the occasional kids who like to check to see if your car door is open, this could be good. When the camera detects something, it records it to the card and you can check the card from your phone as well as see [and hear] live views. A nicely built system and everything I wanted.

I've been wanting to do the same so I'm curious to see how these work out for you. Why did you go with local SD storage vs. cloud? Was set-up easy?

I like it. I bet I could get some great game pics out here plus get an idea if anyone is casing your place.

I liked the "local storage" idea as opposed to a cloud-based one. My wife (who is only casually interested in this) mentioned something about the safety of our footage so she likes that the data isn't "out there" and only stored here. I keep fiddling with these and probably will for awhile. You can choose when video is captured (what days, night or day, a timeframe during those days, etc) and you can set the motion sensor's sensitivity either LOW or HIGH to either get more or less activity. If leaves are blowing around and the sensitivity is HIGH, you might get an alert. I liked that this system was "neat"... no wiring, no antennas, etc. Setup was easy. These cameras come from another country for sure... the app and the guide and the answers from the technicians on Amazon all have some broken english. But for the price and for what they do and what they feature... I'm liking them.

I'm always leery of putting holes in the house...can these be mounted other ways? My worry about local storage is that the perp steals the card from the camera. Kind of defeats the purpose. Wifi also has some shortcomings when it comes to criminals...I imagine a quick snip of the cable going into the house will render the cameras inoperable. Maybe my search for the perfect system is expecting too much.

Wifi also has some shortcomings when it comes to criminals...I imagine a quick snip of the cable going into the house will render the cameras inoperable. Maybe my search for the perfect system is expecting too much. Another way to mount it was with a sticky piece of tape that has a very strong magnet on it. The camera accepts the magnet and it's VERY strong. No way the camera and the magnet are coming apart. My issue was with the sticky piece of tape outside in the rain, snow, ice, heat, etc. so I screwed in mounting brackets. Also, if a perp stole your camera and also the card, the contents of that card are encrypted and can only be seen by the person who set up the account (me) so the card is useless to them. Nice feature. If the perp cuts my web connection... yeah, everything is screwed then. They would really have to be bold. Cut the web connection and then get a ladder and steal the cameras which are high. I can't see it happening but I probably shouldn't say that.

That's awesome for me on the magnetic base. My house has steel siding. I could get rid if the backing and stick it right under the eave over my motion light. Attachments:

I will look into the battery one for my parents. I currently use wyze cameras and they do what I need for now.

The magnetic base is intriguing, assuming it's strong enough to adhere to a gutter (and assuming gutters are magnetic). Anyone know if they are aluminum or steel?
Drez, I am considering a Wyze camera as well due to the price (under $30 I believe) but I believe they are indoor only.

Not sure if this is a thing, but I wonder if 3M makes some kind of adhesive/Command-Hook type of thing rated for outdoor use?
If they do, that might allow for installing without worrying about whether or not a magnet will hold, and might avoid having to drill extra holes into the siding/trim of their house.

Thanks, I had a feeling they are aluminum. I could possibly rig something up with a piece of metal on the inside of the gutter...sounds like the magnet is pretty strong.

You could look into this Alien Tape that I think I mentioned somewhere. There are a number of options but I bought THIS one. I don't know if I would trust it outside and for something on the heavy side but the stuff is pretty amazing. I used it to fasten the solar panel to the inside of the greenhouse for those lights I installed. The solar panel is light and maybe the size of a pack of cigarettes and it's also "inside" so I thought it was a good application. We'll find out when it's 0° outside.

I have little "Houses" I got form amazon and they are great.
