I need cameras in front as well. I live in the boonies so anyone coming here either meant to or is lost. Thing is they can come and go and I’d never know it because our living room faces the back towards the woods and wildlife. I disconnected the doorbell because the wife is handicapped and sure enough during her daily nap those lost souls (and the FedEx guy) will ring it.

I started looking at Ring doorbells but eventually realized that my need has nothing to do with doorbells... I really just want cameras so I can see what's going on (which is usually nothing, btw). I liked these because there are no wires. Installation is really easy. The battery life is impressive (so they say... mine have been up for just 10 days) and I also like that I can record to local microSD cards and not have to worry about a monthly cloud service. So far so good. You will absolutely find something that fits your needs.

My wife and I have been noodling with this for awhile. Home security, Ring doorbell, etc. At some point I realized that I really just wanted cameras with some flexible settings and I did not want wires or anything that was tricky to install. I ended up with THESE after Stain (blueboard) mentioned setting them up and how much he liked them. They run on a 10000 mAh battery that can [supposedly] last 3-6 months. There are multiple ways to mount the cameras, they connect to your wifi, they can record to a microSD card or a cloud storage (I got cards for mine) and you can dictate how sensitive the motion sensor is and how long video is recorded for. I ended up with three of these. Front door, driveway, backyard. They record in 1080P HD and there is also a mic and a speaker for conversations as well. Adding on [if necessary] would be easy. Between the animals and also the occasional kids who like to check to see if your car door is open, this could be good. When the camera detects something, it records it to the card and you can check the card from your phone as well as see [and hear] live views. A nicely built system and everything I wanted. How are these working? I am thinking of picking one up for my parents.

How are these working? I am thinking of picking one up for my parents. They are working well. There are a lot of pluses... great live and video quality both day and night, local storage, being able to use them remotely (when I was in Austin I brought up the view of our backyard and my kids were all WOW, IS THAT A LIVE SHOT?!) so that part is cool too. There are a lot of settings and what I learned eventually is that you don't want to record everything all day because your phone will blow up with alerts every time you walk outside. So I changed the 'recording window' to 6pm until something like 6am, give or take. I can still see a live shot any time of the day but if someone was lurking in my backyard at midnight I would have a video and an alert. Same for a raccoon, etc. If I were somewhere in the house at 1pm and I heard the doorbell ring I could get a live shot of the front door and see if it's my mother-in-law (open the door) or Mr. Klopek (continue with whatever I'm doing). The batteries look like they will indeed last for 3-4 months based on where the batteries are right now and that's good with me. The clean, wireless installation is nice too. I sunk these brackets into some cedar trim on the house and if/when I move them or take them down it would be easy to fill those holes and paint. So far, liking them. I see the price at the moment is $69.99 each.

okay I picked one up. Got it for 49 since there was 30% off or something like that.

I realize the RING doorbell can detect motion, give you a live feed, record video and also provide 2-way audio. But I never understood why it had to be part of a doorbell, specifically. Add to that the frustration of having to install some kind of special power supply to the RING if you choose to hardwire it and this is a no-brainer. Install the camera by the front door, no wires, no special power requirements, all of the functionality of the RING at a fraction of the price. Boom.

Well, for Christmas I pulled the trigger on lights, cameras, and a doorbell at my place.
The wife needed lights on her ramp and deck to get into and out of the house so that was job one. She’s tickled pink with how it turned out.
I wanted some cameras pointed at entrances and the driveway so that was job two. It’s nice seeing when people are coming and going.
For giggles I added some path lights for the walk to the front door and I added a garage door controller.
Now, I can see everything and open the garage on my phone from anywhere in the world. Pretty cool.
Now that we’ve entered the smart home era, my wife wants her light to be voice controlled because she struggles to turn it on/off. I imagine I’ll go with Alexa and Phillips Hue bulbs.
I still have the basement door I want to cover somehow. Haven’t got there yet.

We have such great toys and most people are able to do these things themselves. I like being able to open my garage door with my phone and all kinds of other stuff. Nice work, BB.
