The social distancing and isolation aspects haven't really bothered me much; my work schedule has that already built into it; so you could say I'm conditioned for this. I do miss going out for a meal on the weekends on a whim, for sure.
What drives me nuts is going food shopping. Before all this, I head out Friday mornings, at/around 7:30am. Low foot traffic. In and out in a half hour. Now, with all the one way-aisles, and peoples fecking refusal to pay attention to them tacks on more time. Is what it is.
A couple of the grocery stores near me have armed guards to deny anyone without any face coverings. It's fun listening to, lack of a better term, Covid deniers, argue with them.

My inlaws are driving me nuts with their stupidity. "Hey we are bored with this stay at home thing so we went to Joe's house to visit in Oklahoma since he just got out of the hospital, Menard's in Missouri to pick up dog food, and bible study at someone's house with 14 other people since the church is closed. We're coming down to your house this Sunday to visit our immune compromised daughter"
We've told them repeatedly NOT to come down here. The women in this family have this attitude of "I don't care if it makes any sense, I WANT to do it so I'm GONNA do it."
Meanwhile the rest of the idiots have seemed to make a sport of going shopping daily. Our grocery stores are packed all day every day. How much stuff can people buy?

My 85 year old MIL is a "go to the grocery store every other day without wearing a mask". I'm 95% certain she's had her hair done every week under the table. Her hair style hasn't changed in 50 years and it's the same bloody routine... every Wednesday go to the hair dresser to get it washed and set. Yup... she washes her hair once a week. She's got 37 years on me and I'm pretty certain I've washed my hair more times than she has. Ugh! But her inability to social distance the rest of the week was the reason why I wasn't keen to even do social distancing with her on Mother's Day. Thank god the weather was shitty.
As for the grocery store... we have a Kroger owned store and you can order your groceries and go pick them up on a certain date and time. It has worked out fairly well through all this, but what amazes me is that regardless of the day of the week or time, the store is always busy. We are a Village of 8,000.

I think it can be a difference of what your state decides (as well as whatever media you watch/listen to/subscribe to). My daughter (24) and one of my sons (22) are in Austin. Texas is relaxing the restrictions. My son down there is supposed to graduate from UT this month. He has been pretty good about isolating. He has 5 roommates and he says they have been staying at home, doing homework, working on projects like building a beer-pong table, etc. but sometimes one of the guys girlfriends will come over (including my son's). My daughter has gone over there to hang out. My daughter has also been out on a boat on Lake Travis with 10 people boating, drinking, swimming, etc. We're supposed to go down there to hang with our son for his graduation (which is NOT going to be held, AFAIK) but we're getting concerned that the two of them have been way too cavalier about the virus.

We do the grocery order-ahead/scheduled pickup for our groceries from our nearby Kroger, supplemented with Amazon Fresh deliveries. Has worked fairly well so far.
One issue we've recently run into involves maintenance on our household mechanicals, specifically our furnace and A/C. On top of trying to minimize our chances of getting the virus, we also have an immune-suppressed son who we're doubly concerned about getting it.
Talked to our HVAC place this morning, and they confirmed that their techs are issued gloves and masks, and when they come by late next week for our A/C tuneup, the tech will spend only as much time as needed in the house (mainly to check and clean the evap coil in the furnace and test-run the A/C; I will replace the furnace filter myself), and then the rest of what needs doing can be done outside at the unit itself.
Another suggestion: if possible, request the first appointment of the day. We always do (mainly b/c I'm up and working early, so I like getting those visits done earlier in the day), but if we're the first visit of the day, then we'll feel a little better that our tech won't be coming over from someone else's house (and not knowing if that customer was sick/exposed or not) but instead will be arriving directly from the shop, and reducing the chances of spreading the virus, even a little.

Saw this article earlier; looks like some pretty promising research results: www.kpbs.org/news/2020/may/15/coronavirus-patients-recovery-immunity-likely/The last paragraph is what gives me the most hope: (bolding is mine) “All efforts to predict the best vaccine candidates and fine-tune pandemic control measures hinge on understanding the immune response to the virus,” Crotty said. “People were really worried that COVID-19 doesn’t induce immunity, and reports about people getting re-infected reinforced these concerns, but knowing now that the average person makes a solid immune response should largely put those concerns to rest.”

The positive results on the Moderna trial eased the pain of the losses i've taken on the airline stocks i bought, they were up nearly 20% today, though still down 35% from my buy in price. I'm in for the long haul though, even if it takes a while for air travel to come back i still got in at a great price. On another note, I haven't been in a public building in over two months. This time of year i'm used to making trips to Lowe's multiple times every weekend. Now i'm forced to face the facts that i have enough partially finished projects to last 5 summers.

I have worked in the hospital almost 5 days a week since this started. Face to face with 10 patients per day. Sometimes bear hugging them to get them up when they are too weak. Thank God I'm not in a Covid hotspot. Got a scare today when I initiated a treatment and the patient was in a mask in the room. That is pre-tested Covid assumption protocol. Patient said he was told he had to have it on when people were in the room. I immediately exited and talked to his nurse who call her manager. New protocol as of Right Now. ALL patients must have a mask on when anyone enters the room. No email, no notification overhead. Nothing. Thanks for the scare a-holes

I was waiting for the Stacy Keach pic, well done chils. I like to say that my wife and I have been practicing social distancing with much success for years. I do miss Wednesday nights for a cigar and cocktail with my cigar guys. I miss the social aspects of a lot of things. That all said, we're stepping out on Saturday for a house warming and Memorial Day BBQ. We have a "foody group" of friends, 4 families in total that we do a lot of social things with, a couple dudes I know from high school. Once a month we pick a house and a country and cook to that, drink and party... We vaca and have dates in June or Marathon Key. Not sure if that will happen... But nonetheless, we are looking forward to Saturday. All of us families have been conservatively quarantined so I have a good level of feeling safe. My wife is a little cagey over it but, hey, the backyard, BBQ, the pool and 6' away jello shots. And for the record, I haven't had to blow away any lizards/iguanas off the pool deck yet this year. Me thinks the lizard thing is hog wash hahaha

Things are opening up around here. I think folks are being overly cavalier about it. Mask wearing has pretty much dried up. To be fair, our county has had a pretty low COVID incidence, but our proximity to the DFW metroplex is reason enough to be cautious in my opinion. As a recent COVID survivor said, "If you hate wearing the mask, you'll hate the ventilator even more."

As a recent COVID survivor said, "If you hate wearing the mask, you'll hate the ventilator even more." Yeah, my daughter and older son live in Austin. They have been relatively strong about isolating but once things started to ease up, they were out by the lake, on boats, in beer gardens, etc. Here is something I saw and I hadn't heard it from this angle before. I don't know how much truth there is to it but I think there could be something to it. Covid-19 is a 'class issue'.

I got an e-mail today that they are going to start having youth baseball practices for my son's league on 6/8 and games 6/29. They cancelled our baseball and soccer spring seasons. I assume they will have some kind of pick up type games but not sure. My daughter has a summer basketball league and that is still on so far.
