Wow, awesome color and clarity Drez. What is the beer style again? Barreled sour?

decided to treat myself to a short pour of a big ole 9.2% barley wine. its bready with a nice toffee note, without a cloying body. Has a fair amount of hops; FHW with CTZ, 60 minutes with Nugget, and a hop stand with Centennial. It don't taste like a 9% beer. Cheers! (failed to realize what book that was being used as a coaster!)

Wow, awesome color and clarity Drez. What is the beer style again? Barreled sour? While I am not Drez I will assume you are talking to me. That grain bill is 82% 2-row, 6% wheat, 6% vienna and 6% c-40. The one I kegged yesterday had more vienna. I'm sure the barrel plays some part in the color as well. Not sure I could give it a style. Solera barrel sour is close enough. It has 4-5 different bugs in the barrel, I have them written down somewhere. It is a 8 gallon barrel that I keg 5 gallons at a time and then fill back up for next year. Yesterday was my third time I've kegged. I pull far enough off the bottom after sitting for a year or more it gets pretty clear.

I got this "American Bock" on tap last night. Brewed on 1/25 so it lagered for a good 12 weeks.

I modeled it after Shiner Bock which is a pretty wimpy beer and surely not a traditional bock. It seems like many people inside my beer-drinking circle like Shiner Bock and I keep bottles of it in the bar fridge pretty regularly. There is a lot of info on the web about how it's made (some say it's got corn grits in it, others say it's all malt). I used pilsner malt, Munich 1, flaked corn and then Carafa Special III and some Midnight wheat. Then just 20 IBUs of Northern Brewer from the start of the boil. You really have to restrain yourself on the hops. Diamond did the fermenting. It's smooth and balanced and while I wouldn't say it's ABSOLUTELY Shiner Bock, I would say that I'm happy with how close it is and how it came out. I'll be bock!

LOL, I was cleaning up an old notebook and there were pics on there from my wife's phone. I browsed through them and found this from a trip to Europe. I'm pretty sure that I'm at U Vejvodu in Prague in this picture... drinking the Czech Dark Lager.
