There are all kinds of switches here... private messaging, up and down points, etc. My guess is that you guys will not need much. Posting pictures works nicely, uploading avatar pictures works nicely. I can create additional subforums but I know a lot of you guys don't like the forum too busy so I will keep that to a minimum. We will probably be the victim of bots and spammers and if I see accounts for people I don't recognize I will delete/suspend/ban those accounts. I assume our group will be small.
Also, if anyone would like to invite people from the other board, please do. I just remembered JayBee (I don't actually remember his exact screen name but he is local to me and a good guy) so someone please send him over here if you could. Cheers guys.

So what I did over on the Blueboard was pretty impulsive and stupid. I continuously found stuff posted by people (often the same people) that peeved me and seemed to violate the code of conduct. If I had been a normal member over there I could have just stayed in the BEER forum and ignored that stuff. But as a moderator you're supposed to be on the lookout for things and patrol all of the subforums which is where I found most of the offensive stuff. At no point did I envision setting up another board but I want to thank you guys very much for joining me over here when there was really no reason to do so except that I suspended my own account over there and left myself with no way of contacting any of you. I appreciate you coming over here so we can continue discussing what we like to do... brew and drink beer. Cheers guys.

Cheers guys. thanks for having us, and for doing this! as far as the other forums and having Mod responsibilities, I see where one can burn out FAST AND HARD. (I'm a admin for my brew club's FB page, and have to put out fires from time to time- ironically enough, troublemakers are folks who never show up to meetings or just show up to troll; but I hold the ban hammer; its rare, but you see some online squabbles that are the equivalent middle school recess fights from time to time). I browsed the PH, and posted very infrequently, up until a couple weeks ago, but I was looking for opinions on a mortgage refi, and more light hearted topics; far removed from the typical PH and Hot Spot fair. Those forums are what they are; living in their own world. for the core group of folks here, beer was always the main focus- with related topics, cooking, non related hobbies, etc, all with a gentlemanly execution. |

There were 6 mods over there. 2 didn't really do anything at all. Another 2 were just fine with what was happening over there and the other 2 (Doobah and me) were concerned and turned-off about the content there. To be a mod over there is like being a cop without a gun. You really have no tools except moving a thread that some drunkie posted in the wrong forum or whatever. That board is a brewing board because almost everyone over there brewed at one point. But many no longer brew and so the other subforums are far more active and that's fine. The vast majority of stuff over there was good. But the small percentage got to be very, very frustrating and exasperating. The middle-school analogy is correct. Bullying, piling-on, name-calling, criticizing, condescending. THESE ARE ADULTS! At least I think ther're adults. Thanks for being here.  |

The biggest issue that I had was that I was supposed to patrol the whole place because I was a moderator. I asked them to just make me a normal member but they wouldn't. If I were a normal member I could just stick to the beer forum and forget the rest. Share it and if we decide it shouldn't be in public we can delete it. It's good to have you back here. Now we need to nudge you to make some beer too.  |
