Ken, thanks for setting this up! Seriously. The Blueboard was like Brokeback Mountain. Didn't know how to quit it because there were a bunch of guys that I just didn't want to not have contact with. I think the terrible thing about it over there is that it is easy to get sucked into the PH and forget about the beer brewing. I think that's what happened to me. I'm hoping to rediscover my brewing mojo over here. And if I can get my act together, try to throw together an easy beer this weekend. I've got a lot of base grain secured in a gamma lock bin. Also a bunch of adjuncts. Some yeast packets in the freezer and hops from commercial sources AND from a friend who lives on a farmette. I'll leave it up to you, but if I were to suggest any sort of sub-forum... a place to find food recipes and their discussions. Can't tell you how many recipes and cooking methods I picked up over there, including the Cincinnati Chili! I thought about that. I actually have some regular-rotation recipes that I got from the blueboard and I could easily make a 'cookbook' subforum somewhere. I hear you about the blueboard. I have mentioned this already but my issue was that I was all over that board because I was a moderator. If not for that I could have stayed in the BEER forum and not go anywhere else. I also work at home so my access to the board was better... so people would know that if they sent me a PM about this thread or can I delete this or move that... I would respond quicker. So I did a lot of that (which I was fine with) but that had me in places that I preferred not to be in. But I did go into the PH to ask or answer questions and I enjoyed a lot of that with people who were good people. It was that middle-school behavior, bullying, piling-on, name-calling, mob-mentality, political thing that got me.

A man after my own heart.
A subforum for food and recipes would be good, or at least a sticked thread for food/recipe talk somewhere (maybe the Picnic Table forum?).

Done and done, good sir. Cherry might've already been popped, but the Cincy chili recipe is there now.

Ken, is there a way in your settings to also include page navigation at the bottom of a page so I don't have to keep scrolling back to the top? Thanks!

Ken, is there a way in your settings to also include page navigation at the bottom of a page so I don't have to keep scrolling back to the top? Thanks! Hi Shaggaroo: I have been discussing this with my fellow mods. I may have to contact someone at freeforums to see if they can help. I noticed it, then Poptop was looking for it and now you have mentioned it. We need better navigation. I will keep looking. Cheers and welcome. EDIT: There is a 'proboards' forum with a support subforum. I posted in there about a BACK TO TOP feature. If there is such an animal, I will try to get it running. EDIT2: As I was noodling with this just now, I clicked on the little SETTINGS icon (the sprocket) on the lower right of the screen and the last option on the menu that appears is BACK TO TOP. It's not as easy as some other forums but it's something...

The brewing beer forum was calm, reasonable and level headed.
The PH was more raucous and frat boy mentality. The Hot Spot was barely in control. It is jungle rules. I do not recall ever submitting a wah-wah crybaby complaint to a mod at that place. I understand what goes on there and if I do not like those kinds of sheningans, it is my job to stay out. I would never consider being a mod and have to wade through and referee the steaming mass that is the Hot Spot.
A couple times in teh beer forum, I caught myself starting a reply in using PH/Hot Spot style of snark and sarcasm. But I rephrased my response to reflect my gentle and considerate side.
Ken, I encourage you to error on the side of civilty and respect here. It is your forum, run it the way you want. If somebody thinks you are too heavy handed, tough darts, let them start their own forum.

I think civility is the goal here; we can (and do) disagree, that's ok, and part of what makes us unique as people, whether it be discussing brewing, sports, family life, etc.
But that said, I do also think that basic decency and civility have become somewhat lost in recent times. The PH at the old forum is a good example of this; for as often as people over there would be at least somewhat civil, far too often (IMO) things rapidly descended into chaos, name-calling, outright hostility, and in several cases, blatant racism. Not cool in my book.
I see this forum as something of a safe haven, respite, etc., from the madness that is modern life in this world. I want to be able to talk about beer, food/cooking, music, sports (assuming they come back at some point), without getting attacked for expressing one viewpoint or another. And I don't think asking others to behave likewise is asking too much; if it is, plenty of alternatives are around.

Right. I'll be honest, many people in the PH are good people. I used the PHBT many times... asking a question about something that I was not familiar with and getting excellent advice. I plan to use the PTBT (Picnic Table Brain Trust) here too. The people in the PH donated money to good causes, shared experiences, had a lot of laughs, etc. and it was a mostly-good experience. But those few people who decided that they were going to rain shit down on people every chance they got, they ruined it for a lot of people. Here, we can have the good without the bad. That's the goal. Cheers.

Guys, on the topic of the BACK-TO-TOP, my post in the support forum had some replies and it turns out there was a plug-in written for this. I installed it and you will now see this up-arrow on the right side of the screen: Also, one of the replies said that you can also hit the HOME button on your keyboard and it will take you to the top. It works too. So that's THREE ways to do it.
