Oak trees are amazing. Based on circumference and height, if that Oak was less than 140 years, I'd be shocked!

I'm betting with our "Twin Trunk Oak" that we could probably get a good 1,000 square feet of floorboards. What sucks is you pay those companies to come in and cut down the trees at significant cost and then they turn around and sell off the wood to be processed (assuming its good).

Tree was gummy in the center; not good enough to make planks out of. Firewood, maybe.

My only issue with leaves is my pool. It's still swimmable but I have to scoop them out every couple of days. But speaking of Oak trees, I took my cousin and his wife to Angel Oak after going to the beach. Magnificent Oak tree!

It's still swimmable but I have to scoop them out every couple of days. I have a big Blue Ash near my pool. At some point in mid-October, I have to scoop out the pool and clear the skimmers A COUPLE TIMES A DAY. When you get to that point, covering it is a relief.

I don't cover at all. We've had occasional days in December or early March where we'll make a pool day! Plus possible Polar Bear plunges on NYE!

I need this to go away so the leaves can come down.

Oogie. I know it's only a matter of time but I'm truly dreading this winter. We had some flurries earlier in the week but nothing like that. I think it's supposed to be sunny and close to 60° for Halloween here.

I hope it melts so I can get on with fall cleanup.

Our lawn guy just left; came by a couple of hours ago to mow for the first time in a month. Did a good job mulching up our leaves. Half our leaves haven't fallen yet, but he should be back at least one or 2 more times this season to finish the last of the leaf mulching.
Thankfully that clears the way for me to deploy some weed/feed tomorrow morning early.
Looking at some nice weather (upper 50's/lower 60's) for the next 2+ weeks for said weed/feed to work before things go totally dormant for winter.

Looking at some nice weather (upper 50's/lower 60's) for the next 2+ weeks for said weed/feed to work before things go totally dormant for winter. I am usually still out there sometime around Thanksgiving picking up leaves. I wait for a 45-50° sunny day and get the rest of the leaves and then I fire up the lawnmower one more time to get the small stuff and then I hit the lawn with a winterizer. It's funny how you begin to notice how certain trees and shrubs behave. I have a big Blue Ash which has now dropped almost all of its leaves. I have a maple that is beautiful right now but 90% of the leaves are still on it. My River Birch still has a lot of leaves too. Then in the spring the ash starts earlier and the maple and birch start later. I have another 3 weeks or so of cleanup. The backyard stays pretty clean because it's fenced in and the wind doesn't blow that much stuff around. For the front, all bets are off because I have neighbors who just let the leaves fly, they would never consider picking them up themselves and they're too cheap to ask their lawn service to do it. So the leaves just blow everywhere. Hopefully they all land in the Klopek's yard.

Oaks fall early, yellow oval hickory leaves are holding on to the branches right now, We have an tough, stringy oak they call a Blackjack that holds its leaves all winter long. Limbs stick straight out to the sides.
