Thanks...I know I'm out of "normal" base malt (still have some wheat and Vienna) and will inventory my specialty malt before ordering. My LHBS is probably 20-25 minutes away but parking can be difficult and I don't really need to leave the house all that often. I want to (and will continue to) support them but it's nice to have grains on hand for a last minute brew.

I still have a closer place to me and I do buy stuff there but the key indicator is my wallet and as long as I plan ahead (as I did here), I generally buy things online especially full sacks since it makes the most sense. LP and Ritebrew are getting a lot of my supply business because they just seem to do everything right, their prices are good and their shipping is quick and relatively reasonable. The one local supplier also fills (and exchanges) CO2 tanks which is handy but I have at least 2 other sources for CO2. If you add the virus to the whole thing, shopping online makes more sense anyway.

I thought it was because he had nothing and it was a pit but I guess a divorce played a roll too. These days I will use Ritebrew and brewhardware or label peelers for most things. I can get grain from a local brewery. Hops is normally hop heaven or Yakima Valley.

If I'm on Ritebrew or LP making another purchase, I may order hops too and often those hops are from YVH anyway... they're just in 1-ounce packages instead of a 1-pound pack. I also keep dry ale and lager yeast around for emergencies or spontaneous brewing so the local supplier thing is almost irrelevant. If a local place is more expensive than what it costs me to order online (plus delivery) then they're not really helping me. It's a new world with so many places able to serve homebrewers from anywhere in the country and homebrewers are smart and [ahem!] frugal... so we'll typically gravitate towards "reasonably-priced".

I just placed my 1st LP order to take advantage of the grain sale. Bought a total of 78# of grains: 55 of Avanguard Pils, 10# each of Avanguard light and dark Munich and 1# each of BlackSwaen chocolate wheat, Briess caracrystal wheat and Briess Blonde RoastOat. Also threw in a sachet of 34/70 for a future dunkel (didn't save the S-189 slurry from the Italian Pils for some reason). Total with shipping was $110, so much less than I would have paid locally, although I've not purchased sacks from the LHBS before. Either way, I'm happy with Label Peelers right now!
Drez, my local breweries have told me that they can't sell me grains due to the state liquor board tracking their purchases for taxation purposes. They will let my homebrew club get pallet deliveries but we've not done a group buy yet.

It started off that I met him at a tasting and was asking about what yeast he uses and he said a dry English. So I said oh, S-04. This was back before 10+ years ago when not everyone had an idea on brewing. That turned the discussion to more in depth on the beer and process. Then I find out he lived in my town and his wife's stepmom was my 4th grade teacher. His son is the same age as my daughter and have been in the same class. I am lucky because I get to pick his brain on the commercial side and he does the same on the small scale side. I take what perks I can get!

Not thrilled with the processing time but I'm sure it's not isolated to just LP. It only has to go 1 state to the east so hopefully it doesn't spend too much time in transit. Hoping to brew next weekend.

But ordinarily I order and get a ship notice the next day. I hate that your first impression was questionable but what happened to you is truly not normal.

Not normal by my experience, either. They may be overwhelmed by running multiple promotions at once (BOGO hops, big grain sale, free shipping on dry yeast...)

If the big grain sale got me off my ass to order something, I'm sure lots of others did the same The good news is that the order arrived via FedEx on Sunday, so shipping was pretty quick. All in all, I'll be ordering from them again. My brother uses them a lot for his wine making and is satisfied enough to register his business with them now that he's going professional.

Looks like Label Peelers is having a big year-end sale. I was looking to stock up on DME, and found it for under $9 for 3 lbs. Everybody else wants $15-18.
Well, almost everybody... I actually ended up ordering from RiteBrew because I wanted some Copper Malt, too! Their price for 3 lbs. of DME was only $9.19.

MoreBeer has free shipping on orders over $59 and I have needed things that they carry that I couldn't find at the other two.

Since getting back into brewing, I'm still using MoreBeer and Austin Homebrewing for most of my orders. I get sacks of grain at the local store. I still need to check if any breweries will sell sacks.

When I need anything other than Amer Ale yeast I get my yeast from Label Peelers. They ship three packs of dry yeast fast and free. I don’t know how many more packs they’ll ship free — I think three is the most I’ve ordered at one time. (I bought a 500 gram brick of Bry-97 a while back that I keep vacuum sealed in the fridge that I use in most of my beers.)
I get my grains from More Beer. I order three or four brews-worth at once to get the free shipping. I like to plan a few beers in advance like that alternating between lighter and darker SRM or higher and lower ABV.

I assume you like it if you bought that much of it but care to share your experience with it? Is it 1056/White Labs 01/Omega West Coast only in dry form?
