Not sure if you guys are familiar with the cask Widge float, but from what I know, it was the original floating diptube. They're used in British cask systems. I bought 3 of them. They work very well but they're hard to find over here.

… Found some work-around. Put a weight between the float and in intake side of the tube, and cut so it fit to have it straight down with no slack. … I’d like to get your take on the ‘fix’ for these. Does it work? I really miss the floating dip tube in the only keg where I don’t have one installed. I don’t mind picking up some stainless fender washers but would like an idea of what size, how many, and where to install them. I'll take a picture when I get off from work and measurements of the washer. The washer is larger- IIRC, the ID of the washer is 3/4" or so. As stated, it worked well in a trial run- literal drops in the bottom of the keg.

Tried to embed pictures on the laptop, but it would link me to a plaintext version of the forum. Going to try to do this by going on the desktop version on my cell. 1: the OD of the washer is 1 3/4". 2: the ID of the washer is 7/8" 3: birds eye of the build: place the washer between the inlet and float.

Thanks for that. I went by Lowes yesterday and picked up some washers. They aren’t as big as the ones in your photo. I may have to make a second trip. I am used to being a three trip plumber so two trips is old hat around here. 😂
Cheers!

Some updates. I brewed during the overnight on Sunday. Made a Smoked Helles with OYL-114. Pitched early Monday morning, about 14 hours later, pressure reached 12 psi. Going to let that ride a couple more days before checking gravity. Temperature is in the mid 60s.
Only detail overlooked: for a long time, I've used a thermowell to put the temperature probe in the fermenter. Come to find out, NorCal makes a corny lid with a welded thermowell. Just throwing that out there.

No weight was added and transfer was smooth as silk.

I finally got around to using the 6g Torpedo keg to ferment a lager. I have a dry hop charge suspended at the top and I'll soon slide it down with some magnets.

I racked the first beer from the fermenter to a serving keg. Took a few minutes. After cold crashing, psi in the tank was 8; assuming the temperature difference is responsible. Just parked the serving keg in the fridge and put on C02. I'll tap it next week or so.
As far as the floating tube, it worked well- kept much of the trub out of the keg. Roughly a cup of liquid came out of the keg before rinsing out.

I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a 6 gallon myself! Once its cherry season by mid to the end of June, Ill get 10 lbs, blend some lambics to taste, and toss it all in the 6 gallon keg to age. The end goal is getting away from carboys. I have 18 kegs, and want to dedicate 6 or 8 to aging sour beers. I hate, hate, hate racking from carboys anymore.
