Haven't had Dead Guy in many years- always enjoyed it, but it's gotten stupid expensive locally over the years- cant justify nearly $20 for a six pack- no, for roughly $25 in material, made 5 gallons.

Very nice. That's one of the benefits of brewing, for sure. I would never say my beer is better than commercial quality but I was just thinking about that over the weekend... I love drinking my own beer. My dad and sister were here on Friday and raving about the beers they were drinking... a Cream Ale for her and a Vienna Lager for my dad. After 23 years of brewing I must have saves some money along the way, right? Nice work, Lefty.

your right Ken- while I can't perfect cloning a commercially available beer, I usually get "close enough". this go around, I have a pitch from Imperial "A18 Joystick"- available year round, and its Rouge's house yeast. talked to a few people about it- all of Rouge's beers have this distinctive "snap" on the finish- the best way to describe it as hoppy, sharp and short; its on dead guy, Shakespeare stout, and from long time fans, brutal bitter (still one of my found memories of beer from yesteryear).
sampled some beers from from guys in the club and a worker at the LHBS- they all have that finish note.
but I'll never make, or personally forgive for the sin of "Voodoo maple donut"- in the neon pink bottles- going back a decade ago now.

Ken, looks great as always. Are you like some professional beer photographer?
So…what makes a Zoigl Bier? I’m not familiar with the style, if it is a style. Assuming it has German ancestry…

Ken, looks great as always. Are you like some professional beer photographer? LOL, yes I went to all the best photography schools. All of my pics are taken with my phone. I currently have a Pixel 6A. I make sure there is good light all the way around and I also make sure the beer just looks good in general. For every picture I post here there are probably 20 that are duds.

So…what makes a Zoigl Bier? I’m not familiar with the style, if it is a style. Assuming it has German ancestry… This was sent out in an AHA email. The link is HERE but it's "member content" so you would have to log in to see it. The recipe calls for 60% pilsner and 40% Munich 2 and then hops at the start of the boil, at 20 minutes and also zero. I may have adjusted it to my 30m boil time. The beer in the picture was actually 60% pilsner, 20% Munich dark and 20% Munich light. I used 20 IBUs of Edelweiss at 30, ¾-oz at 20 and a ½-oz at flameout. I used Omega German Lager #1. It's German. There is more info HERE. I seem to remember there being some kind of special permission or license to brew it in Germany or some such thing. It's a delicious style and very much a hoppier version of an Oktoberfest lager.

Okay, my apologies. I'm not really a camera guy but I love good photographs and I have been playing with the camera settings on my Pixel and I really like how some of these shots come out. The way the beer and the texture of the table is clear but then there is this depth of field behind it. I found a setting to do this and I dig it.

You should frame those images and sell them. They would look great hanging in my bar.
