I think this was mentioned here and over on AHA. The yeast was released by CellarScience in a brick and is now available at the homebrew level in a 12g packet. The description... I know I mentioned in another thread that if they released WL940 as a dry yeast I would be very happy and this looks to be it. 940 is one of my favorite lager yeast strains so I will probably try this dry version for simplicity. The character is unique at least to me. Years ago when I found Victoria in Mexico (and before it was released here in 2010), I ordered WL940 which at the time was a platinum strain and only available certain times of the year. I took a stab at putting a Victoria recipe together and was amazed to get that same character which clearly came from the yeast. I know that in that same thread I mentioned that they needed to come up with a dry version of Omega Bayern which is supposed to be the Augustiner strain. So now someone needs to produce that one too. Here's a link to this Baja product... LINK.

I just ordered two packets from Morebeer. I plan to brew with 2124 next but the Baja will get used sometime in the late spring or summer and I'll try to determine if this is close to 940 and what I consider the "Modelo yeast". Cheers.

I think you willed this stuff into existence, Ken! Looking forward to hearing your results.

I had a really good SMaSH Lager at a local brewery recently. I plan to brew one here and this yeast may be a great one to try in it.

Not sure if I ever mentioned this but a few years ago I was out in the garage brewing and I had a random box of bottles that I moved into the garage and I went to move it. A bottle of Victoria fell through the bottom, hit the garage floor and broke... beer everywhere. Delicious, aromatic beer made with this Modelo yeast. The smell was so outrageously good I wanted to lick the garage floor clean. Maybe it's just me, I don't know. When I first had Victoria in Mexico before it was available here I wondered about the recipe and what it was that I liked about it. Pretty sure it was the yeast because when I brewed something with 940 I got that same character. 940 makes really good warm-weather lagers, IMO.
