A bud of mine asked me if I would brew him beer and then he takes the keg to his place so he can have draft beer. Seems simple enough and something a brewer would do for a friend but as we talked about it, I realized it's not super straight-forward. I told him he'd need a CO2 tank, regulator, draft line with spigot, etc. He was all, "Can't I just pump air into it?". I explained why he can't. Then I said, "Do you have a way to keep a keg cold all the time?" and he said, "I'll put it outside on my balcony" which of course is not an option since it could be 55° out this time of year and also -10°. I would really have no problem giving this guy a keg of my beer but the infrastructure? That's on him. Eventually I said, "you'll just have to come to the Taproom instead".

Hoo-boy. Yeah, his plan doesn't work. And if he says that he'll take bottles instead, just hang up on him.

Been there...friend every year says he wants to have a keg of my beer on tap by his pool for the summer, which I use a lot. I always say sure, but are you going to buy a kegerator, CO2 tank and regulator? Answer is always no, and then I ask him what about a jockey box and CO2 tank and regulator? Nope...so instead of my beer there for the summer, usually for just one pool party during the year, I will borrow a club mate's jockey box and bring my keg and my tank/regulator and the rest of the summer I just bring a couple growlers.

Oh geez. The honest ignorance of the uninitiated.

He was over on Friday night and brought it up again. He started cruising Craigslist and found a kegerator with a commercial tower and connections and the picture showed a commercial keg in it. $140 and it's really old and dirty. He shows it to me "Perfect, right?!". NO. I really don't want to get into this. You know he'll be calling because the pour is foamy or the line is frozen or something isn't right and then I become the "draft beer troubleshooter" and I really don't want to do that. I said, "You can buy a lot of beer for the cost of a new fridge, tank, regulator and draft line". I hope he drops it.

I don't think I'd want to drink it. I don't think he's disciplined enough to make high quality beer.

Just get a canner and can off a batch Don't start up with me Drez! Actually, I think this guy is just enamored with the concept of draft beer. I'm sure we've all seen the reaction from people when they see a draft setup. I've had people tap a beer and ask others to snap a picture of them. Hilarious.
