Ken, I remember you mentioned brewing a Vienna Lager with caramel malt. It was a clone of a beer you drank locally. Did you ever share that recipe?
I’m interested, but can’t find that post.
I put together this recipe, but I have never made a Vienna Lager before.
1050 OG 95% Swaen Vienna 5% C60 Midnight Wheat to 10.5 SRM 24 IBU Magnum Diamond Lager

Look HERE. I probably wouldn't make it that way again though. I just made an iteration of Jamil's Vienna (40% Vienna, 30% Munich 2, 25% Pils and then Carafa Special III) and I think it's a better way to attack it. Yours would be missing the character brought by the Munich 2 and the sweetness of the C60 could linger and change it into more of an Amber Lager. I would also be worried that the one hop addition wouldn't be enough to cover that lingering sweetness of the crystal. But this is how we find out. Cheers. EDIT: Something really weird is happening with the board. I got the link and posted it above. But then THIS post ends up as the first post in the thread I linked to which started in 2020. Really weird. I deleted the post over THERE and it deleted it HERE too so I had to post it again.

Thanks for the link. I see the recipe there.
This is on the back burner. I need to brew an American Lager for my kids for the holidays and my Christmas Ale before a Vienna Lager.

On one hand, anyone can make any beer with any ingredients and as long as it's good, I'm good with it. If I go somewhere and see a Vienna Lager on draft I'm very likely to try it and when I went to this place (The Tap, Bloomington, IN), I was visiting my daughter and so the whole experience was good. The beer was good. Good enough for me to contact the brewery and ask for the recipe. I got the recipe and made the beer and it was okay but not as good as it was at The Tap and also not as good as my normal Vienna Lager recipe so I just didn't go back to that recipe. Maybe I should again. If you make it and like it, please report back.
