My brother is an ‘IT guy’. I defer most IT decisions to him. On a recent visit he encouraged me to get a Roku module for my non smart TV.
I plan to get a smart TV but just haven’t pulled the trigger yet. After plugging in the module and fooling around a bit, I like the Roku interface so I’ll probably go with a Roku TV.
I decided to start with Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+ bundle to check out as my first streaming providers. I like it.
The big question now is should I stick with Hulu for Live TV when I cut DIRECTV or go with Fubu or other live TV?
If you cut the cord, who did y’all go with for your Live TV streaming service provider?

That’s a great point. I was thinking stream but over-the-air is probably a better choice as a backup in case of internet outage.

Haven't done anything with this. Comcast/Xfinity for web and TV and I also subscribe to Netflix and Apple TV and I do have Amazon Prime so I have access to Prime Video too. Yes, it's excessive but if something is on that I want to watch, I want to watch it. Even with that, MLB games are sometimes on YouTube TV or Peacock and Blackhawks games are sometimes on ESPN+ and I can't watch them. This issue of spreading everything out so that consumers have to purchase a bunch of streaming services is anti-consumer, IMO. I understand it's all about money but it's frustrating.

I have a Roku TV and a TiVo for over-the-air stuff. I turn various streaming services on and off depending on what's airing.

Well, I decided to go with Hulu Live which includes Disney+ and ESPN+ and all the channels we watched on DirecTV for less than half the cost. I did get an over-the-air antenna that gives me 39 local channels in case the internet goes down. Belt and suspenders I suppose. So far we love it.
I do plan to buy a Roku TV soon and I’ll move my Roku plug in device I’m using now to another TV in the house.

I think that one of the "cutting-the-cord" issues is live sports and the number of channels needed to be able to have access to what you want. For instance, the Cubs have their own channel called Marquee. All of the regular season games are on there so that would be required for me. The Bulls and Blackhawks are on a local channel here (referred to in the industry as an RSN... regional sports network) called NBC Sports Chicago. There are Fox versions of this, Bally Sports, etc. If I didn't have that it would be an issue. On top of all that, the Cubs have been on Apple TV+, Peacock and also YouTube TV. The Blackhawks have been on ESPN+ which I don't have access to. Then there is NFL Thursday Night Football now on Amazon Prime only (I have access to that). Also, postseason MLB games are on TBS and FS1 and I have those through my Comcast/Xfinity connection. If I cut the Xfinity I feel like I would have some issues finding things I want to watch.

So far I haven’t had an issue. I watch the Cowboys (got smoked by the Eagles last night), the Braves (Phillies took them out), Alabama, Ohio State, And Texas. I have access to Amazon Prime for Pro football on Thursday nights, the later games are OK but the early games can be an issue but I had the same issue with DirecTV. I get Big 10 and SEC networks with Hulu.
