I happen to see these 2.0 Picnic taps uploaded to reddit. I'm intrigued by its ease of use and cleaning. Anybody got the scoop? I've heard his name thrown around a bit but hadn't seen anything from him before. I actually ended up ordering 2 and since I was ordering I grabbed a spundit valve. Hopefully it's good stuff!

Good to see you JayB. I like Trong's approach... very smart and helpful. I think I have his Spundit 2.0 and a couple other things he threw in the bag. But I have not seen the picnic taps. I looked for a picture but couldn't find one.

I received 2 from Trong a little while back. I meant to post about them here but it slipped my mind. I used them at a party my cousin was throwing up in Philly. They work great! No drips, no excess foam!

Trong is a very innovative guy and stands by his products. I use the SpundIt 2.0 all the time and his new and improved FlotIt floating diptube works excellent as well.

Here's the post that got my attention: www.reddit.com/r/Homebrewing/comments/t4gn4w/picnic_tap_20_aka_mother_of_all_taps_moa_tap/I have been having issues with my kegging, and I'm hoping that minimizing all the tubing and whatnot will help out. Also, I already ferment under pressure, but I'm just "burping" the kegs as they ferment. I figure, If I'm buying the taps, I've heard great things about the spundit. Trong even said he was going to give me one of the floating dip tubes to try since I ferment in cornys. He sounds like a pretty good guy all around! I haven't made beer in about a year, but I'm ready to jump back in! Now I just have to convert my pin locks to ball lock! lol

Couldn't you just screw in the picnic tap and/or SPUNDit to a pinlock disconnect instead of converting your kegs?

Couldn't you just screw in the picnic tap and/or SPUNDit to a pinlock disconnect instead of converting your kegs? I asked Trong about that, but I guess he somehow modifies it to work. He basically said he could do pinlock and would just charge an extra $5, which I was going to go with. I've been considering switching my connections to ball lock anyways though so this was the push I needed to make the change.

Yeah, I looked at mine about an hour ago. The disconnect is slightly modified on the picnic tap. But not on the SPUNDit.

Ah, thanks for the links Tommy. I've been in a bit of a brewing slump, trying to figure out if I even want the equipment around anymore. I grabbed these valves and have decided to built a keg washer. If these don't rejuvenate me, my stuff might be going on craigslist. I told my wife I was going to work my way though one bag of base malt and see how I feel lol.

I took about 7-8 years off but now I've been back with a vengeance the past two years or so. I did sell off some kegs at one point but I restocked them with my restart.

Regarding slumps, I think it’s great to focus on another hobby or work or life for a while. You may come back reinvigorated or maybe you’ll just drink a lot of craft beer - no shame in that.

I think you're right about taking breaks. For me, I just haven't been making beer that I love. I've brewed for about 15 years but was forced to take a break when kids came. Now I have a house and pretty much everything I could want to make beer but the beer I'm making isn't the best. I've taken about a year off, and even with that I wasn't brewing nearly as much as I used to.
I'm hoping that I can just chill, make some beer that I want to drink and hopefully feel reinvigorated by the hobby. It's a shame to stop since I've done it for so long and have poured so much of my time into it. Then again, if I'm not enjoying it like I used to, it's not quite worth continuing.
Like I said, 50lbs of base malt is the plan (obviously I'll also buy specialty malts). If I can't make something I like with that, I might just give up the hobby and switch to only drinking commercial beer.

I brewed one too many sub standard batches a while back and decided to reinvent how I brew. I re-read Brewing Better Beer and highlighted the crap out of it. I applied the principles Gordon Strong advocates and have been so much happier since.
I have a low tolerance for PITA so I simplified my approach top to bottom. I especially simplified my approach to water and focus on mash pH. All the crap I was putting in the water was ruining my beer IMO. …and the spreadsheet and gram scale were a PITA for me. Brewday is so relaxing now that I want to brew more often.
Lately, I tried full volume mash to further simplify by removing the sparge step. I even re-wrote all my recipes for 3 gallons in the keg to accommodate my MLT for the full volume. Brewing 3 gallons will cause me to brew more often so win—win.
