That looks pretty good. I'll take a pic of mine over the weekend.

Here's the crush for today's batch, an American Wheat. 50% Pale Ale Malt, 47.5% Weyermann Pale Wheat, 2.5% Copper malt. Lots of "hard" grains in this one... wheat is hard and the copper malt is hard as a rock. This was run through the 3-roller Crankenstein twice.

Lots of swearing milling for a pale ale just now. When I was done I immediately ordered a 3-roller Mighty Mill with the gears. This "passive roller" thing can suck my butt! Yes, today's grist was 45% wheat but it shouldn't matter. May my Crankenstein (gifted to me by a friend) rest in peace. This thing where I hit the rollers with compressed air seemed to work but it was clearly temporary. Today the mill simply didn't want to cooperate.

Mine has been stellar so far. Did you consider the fully geared Crankandstein? That looks like a beast! (3GT) www.crankandstein.net

I like the concept of ALL the rollers being driven by the drill. This passive roller thing has been an issue for me over the course of my mills. I just want to be able to mill my grain without screaming words that my neighbors would have to cover their kids' ears for. The Mighty Mill is a 3-roller, geared mill. Giddy up.

I have the Mighty Mill, too. That Crankandstein is geared as well.

Man that’s like a friend showing you his new Ford Pickup and you saying did you consider a Chevy? I get that. But it's not like I don't love the MM3 - I do. I believe I was the first one on this board and another to get one.

I should mention that I did not have a drop of beer in me when I made that purchase. This was not a drunk purchase unless you consider "anger" because I may have been drunk with rage. I also want to mention that I had taken that Crankenstein apart, cleaned it, oiled it and put it back together very carefully to make sure everything was as it should be. That passive-roller design is just not cutting it, I don't know what else to say. I *DO* use a lot of wheat and copper malt (both hard malts) and maybe the knurls are just worn down on it, not sure. A bud of mine had it and used it and then stopped brewing and handed the mill off to me. It was very solid for awhile but eventually did not perform. Maybe it was in its sunset. Gusso, I may be tapping your shoulder about if you designed a base, etc. for yours. For the crankenstein I designed something unusual because the milled grain shoots out sort of sideways. So I built a "top" for it long enough to span a bucket. I used an old blue five gallon water bottle as a hopper and fit that into the "top". I cut a hole in the side of the bucket so I would have access to the "crank" and I would get my drill into that access point and the grain would fall in whatever direction it was going but it was contained by the bucket. I have no idea what to expect with the Mighty Mill, whether it comes with a base or what. I can fashion whatever is necessary but I might ask for your direction and what you did. Cheers and thanks. Oh and I would go with the Ford but that's just me.

I haven't made a cover for mine as of yet. I haven't noticed much of an issue. Mando did make something for his, iirc, it's just cardboard. Also, the hopper is bigger than advertised. It's listed at 7# but I get near 10.

If I were to make a "cover" for it, I'm thinking a bucket lid fitted to size around the base with tin snips. I'm not the handiest guy around!

If I were to make a "cover" for it, I'm thinking a bucket lid fitted to size around the base with tin snips. I'm not the handiest guy around! I'll noodle with it once it arrives and try to determine the best approach. A normal 2-roller mill has the grain falling straight down so a base with a slot/hole in it that is large enough to cover the bucket is usually enough. On my 3-roller, the grain sort of shoots sideways (not REALLY sideways but more so than straight down) and so if the rollers are above the bucket you could have some grain landing on the floor. My friend warned me about that. He would have his son stand there with another bucket or box to catch anything that didn't want to fall into the bucket. When mine arrives and I see the best way to have it, I'll post some pics. Can I assume that when you mill with this thing that it never "slips" or decides not to mill? With those gears set that way there is NO WAY for the second and third roller to NOT turn, right? This is what I'm looking forward to.

No grain misses the bucket as is. I suppose dust escapes since the base only covers part of the bucket top. But honestly, it's not really an issue for me. It has not slipped at all to date.

So the hopper is good sized and this thing comes with a base that you can put right over a bucket? Some mills are just the mill and you have to make your own base.
