I have a 2017 Tacoma Utility model 4x4. It has the old 2.7L 4-cylinder and 5 speed manual. The last all Japanese built powertrain available. The powertrain is great but the body kinda sucks. Feels cheap and the suspension squeaks like an 1800s buggy going down a railroad track--a known problem Toyota will not fix. I'd probably buy a Ford F-150 if I had to do it over although I really wanted a manual transmission. Utility or SR models are the way to go if you are on a budget. www.tacomaworld.com/threads/the-sr-thread-lets-see-them.411453/

I know the new one are better but the engine and and 2 blow transmission have made me me unhappy with the brand. Still undecided what I am getting but I need to start looking seriously soon. Eta:I am looking at the TRD Offroad models.

30k for a used one? Damn. My son's was probably closer to 20k which confirms his was pretty basic. I do agree with you though... you want what you want. When I bought this Rogue to drive in the winter I realized that I really wanted just about everything that they had on it but I still got it for under $20k. The larger 18" tires, AWD, leather, panoramic sunroof, all the cameras and safety features and just under 30k miles. I start getting twitchy when it comes to spending LARGE amounts of money on a car. Its not just thst brand of truck; All mid size trucks are expensive and hold their value. The new generation rangers, tacos, Colorados are super spendy brand new. Bought a brand new Colorado in 2016- just under 40k. Mid tier trim, with 4x4,towing package and the extended cab (it has 2 seats in the back- but it's really a place to keep tools).

Are you happy with the Colorado? A 2018 Z71 is also on my list. Sat in my wife's aunts and liked it but have not drove one. I will be going crewcab no matter what for the kids. I looked at some videos of the Ranger and not sold on it.

Just rolled over 45k miles, and the only thing that required work was the 3rd break light needs replacement. Also, I'm very on top of maintenance for it.

Shoot a pic of it so we can drool over see it. Most of it goes to my personal quirks and likes and dislikes and a few are not. The Colorado had a lot more pickup than the Tacoma. Since I will eventually go back to the office and I have highway driving I need to make sure I can get on and up to speed quick. Both test drives had us hitting a section of highway and my lord the Tacoma seemed to take a mile to get to 60, exaggeration, but it was slow. The Tacoma also had a smaller back seat area. Both of these were 4 door trucks and I know they are midsized so it will not be spacious back there but we need enough room for the kids and maybe and adult once in a while. I am no tall guy but I was hitting my head while in the back of the Tacoma. The Colorado had more room. The bed on the Colorado is a smidge bigger as well. For the person nits. I hated the feel of the steering wheel on the Tacoma. It did not suit my driving style at all. Teh Tacoma also did not have a USB or charging port for the back seats. Having 2 kids that maybe riding with a device or two it will be nice to have charging back there. The Colorado had 2- usb and one 12v port. The Colorado is also blue and I my dad had a blue truck ( also a Chevy) when I was a kid so that may have been in the back of my mind as well. It also did not help that the Toyota dealership ( one of the biggest in Western Mass) was a cluserf$ck and the guy I scheduled the test drive with the day before was off and not even there. I pick it up on Tuesday and I will snap a picture with a celebratory beer and post it up as an end to the journey!

The Z71's are a nice package. I believe they were released a year or two after I bought mine- have the LT trim.
If I were to buy again, I'd go with the Z71 trim. If they are still made in about..14 years 😁

I bought my last truck in 2006 and have been using a Elantra I got from my parents ,when they realized they did not need the extra car, for most of my commuting. I hate the process of car shopping and buying but it was time. Truthfully if it was not for the Elantra needing a new engine at 80K I would still be driving it.

I had my eye on a Colorado for a couple years before pulling the trigger; did the test drive thing without intending to buy. Saved the funds, and waited for my '01 Pontiac Grand Am to die. The trade in value for the Pontiac was $300. told the dealer no dice, and scrapped it for $750. it had 250k miles and look like it been thru a couple wars.
