Looks good to me. I have a butt in the freezer and I should make some carnitas soon. Tortilla press was one of my early Covid projects.

Are tortilla presses hard to find or expensive? I never thought to home make one but that looks pretty good!

Are tortilla presses hard to find or expensive? I never thought to home make one but that looks pretty good! I would not have found one locally but I could have got one from Amazon. It was a good father son project since my son loves flour tortillas and wanted them with tacos for dinner and we were out. It was made from stuff I had kicking around the garage so it costs nothing but about 2 hours. I have a very big problem of trying to make stuff instead of buying if I can. In the end I think it costs me a lot more ...lol

That looks great, Drez. TBH, I used to just take a round, glass casserole dish and smash the tortilla with that. Not only is it easy but you can see right through it in case on side or another is not flattened out yet. It works fine. I bought the one in the picture from Amazon for 20-something bucks. Five-star reviews and thousands sold, made in Mexico, etc. The corn tortillas are fun to make but these carnitas were spectacular. The flavor and texture were outstanding.

To get the best tortillas you have to heat up the press. That's how they make them at the factory. Next time I make them I'm going to set the press over the burner on the stove

I had never heard that. Is that in addition to heating up the tortillas in a pan after they have been formed or instead of that?

I had never heard that. Is that in addition to heating up the tortilla presses in a pan after they have been formed or instead of that? You press and cook at the same time

I pressed and threw them on the Blackstone. Good enough for me

I'd like to make some flour jobbies too. I feel like the flour tortillas I get at the store are pretty good. The corn ones not so much and that's why I tried to make them myself. Interesting on the heated press. What that guy has in the video is cool.
