I never spent much time on the AHA board. I do not see that changing any time soon. I've looked at that board... never got a good vibe there!

My favorite part was Drew's comment. I'll never get that time back.... Won't happen here My favorite part was the OP's "my 30 years experience..." crutch. Then Denny,in a kind demeanor asked if OP knew who John Palmer, Jamil or Chris White was. OP quips backs with "those are opinions.." I lol'ed heartily. Forget exactly where heard this,It may of been a brewing network podcast from years ago, but the moment you think you know it all about brewing, is the moment you refuse to evolve. I'm still learning. 😊
I've been brewing almost 20 years; wouldn't ever purport to know enough about it to call my self an expert, or in the case of the d-bag over at the AHA forum, expound on his "30 years of experience".. yeah, whatever.
I do also think that as a brewer gains experience, he/she should scrutinize information they receive and determine for themselves what has merit and what doesn't. Palmer, Jamil, and others aren't perfect, and if they were to say something that didn't sound right, their words should be evaluated critically. None of us are above that kind of scrutiny.

Whole heartily agree; nothing is written in stone in the brewing world.

On that topic, I agree. I would never, ever think I knew everything there is to know which is why I'm always trying new things and staying open-minded about new ideas. The idea of someone being around for 20 years could mean that you've done and seen a lot and it could also mean that you've been doing the exact same thing for 20 years and are closed-minded. That said, I was focusing more on the fact that the conversation had to swirl down the toilet as opposed to just being discussed like civilized people.

My first brewing forum was one called the Brewhut. Think it was linked to a store in CO with the same name. Holy shizzle... same. I don't know if I knew you but that's how I met Chris Testerman. Not sure if you remember that name.  I do know that name. Been a long time since I was on that yellow themed board. I joined it probably 2008ish IIRC. Still a very green brewer at that time.

One thing. If moonshaddow makes his way over here, he should be the lone member that is can change his user name.

I just feel like people are making a sport out of arguing over how other people make their beer and some people seem to be at the center of it more often than not. It's like that on nearly every forum on every subject. Some people can't just say their piece and move on. They have to be right, you are wrong, and you must bow down and admit you are wrong/they are right and agree to never post again about the subject. On and on ad infinitum.
It is very tiresome to me.

The internet would be a better place if people just let somebody else have the last word.
That is how I learned to survive the PH on the brews-bros. Somebody says something nasty, insulting, stupid, or just plain wrong? OK, you enjoy it. I will let it hang out there for everybody to read.

So were you on the blueboard? Did you have a different name over there? Read his name backwards... Ah, silly me. Zymot: So glad you're over here. There were many times when a thread was spinning out of control and a post of yours would cut through the BS, end the stupidity and hit the nail right on the head... over and over. I believe I replied a number of times saying "Zymot brings the hammer of TRUTH!!". The only way for me to make sense of some of those people was to assume that they had nothing better to do than troll others and intentionally act like an ass. But then I realized how sad that truly was. One pesky and frustrating person in particular had the highest number of posts on that forum. He also had a family. Why is he spending so much time on a forum (again, more posts than anyone) for the sole purpose of annoying others on purpose? I don't get it.

There were some people I refused to reply or directly respond to their comments. I do not know if they picked up on it. Sometimes I might wait for some addition post or comments and then indirectly respond.
I can admit an epic lou vs stain digging in their heels and butting heads debate could be entertaining.

There are certain individuals on that forum and others that seem to derive their self-worth from winning internet arguments. When there is no argument they seek to create one. What they fail to realize is that they aren't winning, they're just willing to waste more time, energy, and posts than anyone else.

I'm no psychologist but I always wonder what makes someone go to that same spot over and over when other people seem to be able to communicate with respect. Is it to compensate for an unsatisfactory home life, were they beaten up in middle school, is there an insecurity that they feel they need to make up for? I have no idea but it's fascinating. But not fascinating enough for me to hang around over there any longer. I have seen more than my fair share of that and I'm not about it anymore. I'm glad it's working out smoothly here and I'm happy with how many good people have joined. Cheers brothers.
