Take a look at THIS page of a now-locked thread over at AHA. Feel free to read the whole thing but the fireworks are on Page 4, the linked page. I can't tell you all how tired I am of people that can't find a way to communicate without resorting to what HabeasCorpus thought he had to do on that page. Regardless of who is right, wrong, etc., are adults able to have a conversation without resorting to this kind of attack? It's exchanges like this that sent me running from the blueboard in the first place... except it happened over and over and over again. We can disagree and we can have different opinions and we can agree to disagree. But there is no reason to do that.

Yikes. That was tough to read.
If I were in charge over there, there would be some accounts banned for that type of behavior.

Not sure what coonman was looking to accomplish in that thread. I agree. I would have said that I used to use a secondary (list the reasons why) and then mention that I had a conversation on how to skip that step and that I gradually moved away from them. I just feel like people are making a sport out of arguing over how other people make their beer and some people seem to be at the center of it more often than not.

I honestly can't think of anything about homebrewing worth fighting and name-calling over. There's a place for most methods and techniques. And opinions. It's supposed to be fun.

The ad hominem was strong in the thread. If I didnt know any better, looked like a HBT thread!

There is another thread over there now about taking gravity readings. Someone I know (who I have a huge issue with) posted a video and someone else slammed the guy to the ground saying the video was tedious and too long. Then I posted about the combative environment on boards lately and I may have helped ease things in that one particular thread. Maybe it's because everyone is all cooped up, I don't know but there are some tense SOBs out there lately.

Big cults of personality, sycophantism, etc. It was a huge turn off; the homebrewing dogma will.not.be.questioned. 1 week primary, 2 week secondary. Period. Or adleast it was like that when I was there briefly.

They were very good, very patient and helpful and I wanted to be like them and eventually give back the way that they were doing for me. Eventually a guy showed up there who apparently was a veteran of the board but he had been gone awhile. His personality was very different and I was turned off. He was the type of guy who would say, "If you make some sort of light lager and you have me over at your house and offer me that, I would probably just drink water or something. NO THANK YOU!!" and I was all, "What the deuce? You're too cool for a pale lager?" and from that point on I was always aware of the people who always seemed to like extra friction... and I stayed away as best as possible.

My first brewing forum was one called the Brewhut. Think it was linked to a store in CO with the same name.

Not sure if you remember that name.

My favorite part was Drew's comment. I'll never get that time back.... Won't happen here My favorite part was the OP's "my 30 years experience..." crutch. Then Denny,in a kind demeanor asked if OP knew who John Palmer, Jamil or Chris White was. OP quips backs with "those are opinions.." I lol'ed heartily. Forget exactly where heard this,It may of been a brewing network podcast from years ago, but the moment you think you know it all about brewing, is the moment you refuse to evolve. I'm still learning. 😊

I never spent much time on the AHA board. I do not see that changing any time soon.
