I know I've mentioned that before but I'm as convinced of it now than ever before. Politics is a sport. CNN, Fox and MSNBC are ESPN. There are winners and losers and election night is the super bowl. There is pre- and post-game coverage and analysis. There are pre-game predictions. There are experts who tell us what the team will do or what the team should have done. There are calculated matchups. There are former politicians on TV giving us the color commentary. There are politicians on the injured reserve because of Covid. There are cheerleaders. There is sign-waving and face-painting and huge foam fingers. There are huge, cheering crowds. There are masterful wins, blown plays and miraculous comebacks. Years ago politicians were boring and just did their job in the background... at least in comparison to now. I can't tell you how burned out I am on this particular sport.

Just one more sleep and the campaigning for votes will be over.
Up next is the 5 weeks worth of court battles until we get a determination as to who won!

We're clearly in an information war. It's getting increasingly easier to create information on social media which eventually creeps into cable "news" outlets and as long as that 'information' resonates with people, they begin to spread it. The issue with the rest of us is that we can't find ways to verify the information and determine if it's valid. I mentioned in another thread that there is a site called ALLSIDES.com which report a story from left, center and right and it certainly helps. But why are people so eager to grab a story and run with it just because it fits their narrative? Don't they want to know if it's true or not?

I think Denzel Washington called them out on trying to be first to ‘print’ without careful vetting of the information. Paraphrasing his comment went something like: Getting there first with the sensational has become more important that truth.
I believe it all changed when journalism school mission statements went from ‘just report the facts’ to ‘make the world a better place’.

I think politics is like Professional Wrestling. In front of the crowd, both side act like they hate each other, fabricate a heated feud and when they get behind closed doors it is buddy buddy. The audience/voters know it is all a show, but still they cheer their guy, boo the "bad guy."
