I've been thinking of better storage solutions for the garage. Decided to try some "loft shelving" for my grain buckets, carboys and bottles I keep around. the previous solution was a couple of 6' wire shelves in the corner. It looked messy, and it took up a lot of floor space. unfortunately, don't have any before pictures, but it looked like hell. So, came up with this. holds a ton of weight, and cleared up a bunch of space. looks like the whole garage maybe getting this treatment.

Nice, I have something very similar in my garage and I love it. Uses a lot of dead space and gets stuff off the floor.
It is also scary how similar our mills set up is.

I should consider that. Our garage is really small for some reason. You guys have heard of a 2-car garage and maybe even a 2½-car garage... I swear we have a 1¾-car garage. It's really tight. I do have one of those rack shelf jobbies with the wooden shelves and the metal racks that are sharp enough to slice meat with... you know what I'm talking about? I also have a plastic cabinet that is taking up floor space too. The issue with having items up as high as in the pic is that my wife will struggle with getting things down and tell me that I wife-proofed the garage.

That's a great usage of a dead area. Mine is so close I wouldn't be able to get much up there. When we remodeled last year I had my 24x24 garage with breezeway to the house connected to the house eliminating the breezeway. That added 10ft to it making it 24X34. I'm still out of room. I gots too much junk.

I'm still curious about the carboys. They are glass. 😱 I'm sure you're able to tell how sturdy it is. In the pic, the right side panel that is used for the shelf looks like it's flexing a little but that could also be because it's on a slight angle. If you thought any of it seemed flimsy I'm sure you would address it. As for the glass carboys, roll them up in a blanket you don't care about and smash them with a sledge hammer before they cut off one of your thumbs! I got rid of all mine. Some older woman bought them at a garage sale we had and said she was going to make wine with them. Hey, they're her thumbs. Also, I put a bunch of Better Bottles on CL awhile back for $5 each and I even mentioned that I had stoppers for those interested. I didn't get one bite. I eventually threw them into the recycling bin.

I do want to branch out to wine making for something else to ferment. I do understand some folks are concerned using glass, which are legit concerns. Those carboys sat on a wire shelf prior to this build, and never lost one, or an appendage for that matter. 😁

I pray we never hear the "well, today was the day" story from you. :-(
I'm not going to try to dissuade you from use. You know the benefits and drawbacks... and how to care for them. You also seem like the kind of guy who isn't going to be brewing in a pair of cargo shorts and flip flops. But by the same token, kinda surprised you aren't a stainless steel conical kinda guy! ;-)
