I looked into this awhile ago and my wife and I were talking about it again recently. I see one that is "new and improved" with 1080p video and better motion detection and it's $99. I see another one that says "current doorbell wiring is necessary" and that one is $249. What's the deal with that? The cheaper one is battery operated? I would like one where you could check the camera on the RING from your phone so... wifi enabled? For those who have played with this, please advise. Cheers and thanks.

I've looked into them briefly but that's as far as I went. I do want to get some cameras up around the property but this would only cover the front and not the rest of the house so I started looking at other options.

There is some weird nonsense about getting the proper transformer for the Ring model you choose if you plan to use the existing wiring from the current doorbell. Your point about "cameras" vs. "a doorbell" is understood. I thought about a security system with cameras which is really a different animal than just a camera on a doorbell. The concept of having the video archived to a big external drive through the wifi system would be cool too. Maybe I will look on Amazon and see what's out there. This was prompted by a video someone posted on a local forum here... kids came and checked to see if the cars parked in the driveway were unlocked. They roam the neighborhoods and look for cars left unlocked and steal whatever of value they can find. A camera out in front and also in the back would be good but I would want to archive that video and everything would need to be motion-activated.
