I'm not sure I have met an English ale strain that I didn't like. 1098, 1099, 1028, 1968, 1469, 1318, I'll throw 1728 on that list... they all have a certain character that I have called "bready" but that's a lazy description. There is something great about the aroma and flavor of a beer brewed with these yeast strains. Zymot, how many IBUs did your MLPA have?
Beersmith calculated it around 30 IBU range. (30 minute boil with 1.75 oz Perle hops) My hydro sample tells me I got the balance that I wanted. (and that Super-Kleer K.C. works.
Oh, that's excellent. If there were any doubt that the balance would be off due to the 1318, I think you got around it nicely. Please post a pic when you're enjoying one. Cheers.

The smell of mashing never gets old.

I'll be smelling that smell in about 2 hours. Gonna mash in at lunch time, and do an afternoon boil.

Plan bottling it this weekend. Shame I ended up with just 4 gallons. Though about getting the batch to 5 gallons. My philosophy is take what the beer gives you. This time I ended up with 4 gallons, that is what the beer game me. This time.
If I am going to do a salute to Ken and moderately hopped and balanced beer, the only logical follow it up is an anti-Ken hop bomber double IPA. Lots and lots of grain and as much hop bitterness as the wort will accecpt.

LHBS started to do curbside pickup this week, so I finally have some WLP400 for the wit I was planning to do this weekend. My basement is still at 60F, so that needs to wait. I'm not set up at all for heating . I'm used to fighting to keep my temps down.
Probably just clean some kegs.

Between that and the freaking heat! Gonna give it a 4 hour mash which will get me 'closer' to the end of my workday and let the sun head farther west. Back to "chilling" haha to pitch temp. Goal; to get her under 80, rack and chill overnight.

I think it might really happen this week! I may actually brew! No idea what yet. But i'm going to start my liquid yeast and hope it's in good enough shape to use.

Let's play a guessing game...I have a bag of yeast and hops from my last trip to the LHBS. Here's what i have:
WLP002 English Ale WLP833 German Bock 3oz East Kent Goldings 3oz Citra 2oz Northern Brewer
What was I going to make?
I'm guessing a Citra Session APA/IPA and a Dunkel.
LOL, I just looked at my posting history on the blueboard. Apparently I bought these ingredients without anything in mind.
A session IPA and dortmunder both sound good to me. The basement should still be suitable temp for a lager for another few weeks.

If it were my beer. Northern Brewer for bittering, Cascade & Citra flavor & aroma. English yeast.

Any of you's guys brewing a batch on 5/2 for National Homebew Day? Just listened to Denny, Drew and Gary Glass discuss it on their latest podcast. I didn't sign up but might. Unfortunately, I've been told I'd much rather trim hedges and mulch the front beds
