But a black snake is not poisonous or dangerous in any way? If I knew that then I would think it was cool. One issue I have is that I see snakes so rarely that I generally don't know how to ID them. Pretty sure my wife and I came VERY close to a Coral Snake on our honeymoon. We were in MX and on an excursion out to an island where we explored, snorkeled and had lunch. While exploring we saw a black snake with pale yellow and pale pink stripes. We backed off and on the boat ride back we told our guides. They looked at each other with wide open eyes. One asked something like "was it yellow-pink-black or was it yellow-black-pink?". Dude. I don't know. They aren't venomous but they will bite the crap out of you if they think you are going to harm them. I haven't had one aggressively persue me but they nearly always bow up to strike if you touch them. I don't want one underfoot when I'm in flip flops like I was that day.

Oh yeah, I would prefer it if they didn't bite the crap out of me. Just saying.
