Best of luck!
I too go on beer fasts every so often, useally 2 months outta the year for, opposite seasons (in the spring and fall, etc) of a better term, maintenance. Just to reset and put a check on things. It sucks at first, but you got this.
I will also chime in on lowering the ABV on your beers; you'll feel better in the morning I'd you Imbibe a little too much. Big fan of having a pint of water between rounds- dehydration is the enemy, and makes hangovers far worse. Also, say, at a brew club meeting, I like to drop concentrated vitamin B complex before during and after a event. Your pee will glow in the dark, and you may wake up with a fuzzy head, but wont be in pain.
Ever since turning 30, hangovers just wreck me. Just avoid them as much as possable.

I know many people that got into trouble one way or another due to consuming alcohol.
I never heard of anybody getting into trouble for NOT drinking alcohol.
Take a break. Get dried out. Look at beer from fresh perspective. You do not have to go all 12 step program with it. Let beer enhance your life. Make it one of the many things you enjoy.

So far, so good.
Been dropping weight like a fiend. From my heaviest (late February), I'm down 25 lbs. I'm sure the lack of calories from beer is playing a significant part in that, along with eating less overall and drinking a crapton more water. Primary care doc has me on a 10-day course of antibiotics (trying to get rid of a nagging skin problem; seems to finally be resolving), so that alone would have me cutting out beer for the duration, so this 30-day dry-out came at a good time. In the meantime, I've been tweaking some of my recipes so that for my next brewday (first week of June), I can start in on making lower-abv fare and make this weight loss stick. Been too heavy for far too long, and once I can start enjoying beer again, I don't want to undo the progress I've made.

I feel like a lot of brewers make beer in your zip code... 6-7% seems common. They could make a lot of 5% beers and only share information about their higher ABV beers... who knows? I feel like I am one of just a few that routinely makes 4-5% beers but I know that's changing. I also happen to know quite a few brewers who got into brewing strictly because they could make 8, 10, 12% beers. I can't enjoy an extended session with beers like that and I'm not really into having just one or two beers. The calories alone is a good reason to go this route and with our vast array of malts, hops and yeast I know you will find ways to make lower-ABV beers interesting to your tastebuds. Cheers.

I remembered my Czech "dark-light" as they call it. 3.9% 100 calorie beer as I was reading your post. Extremely tasty, easy on the gut, and chuggable. Check out the version in post #12. It was my favorite. brews-bros.com/topic/121484-cz-1036-session-amber-polotmav%C3%A3%C2%A9-v%C3%A3%C2%BD%C3%A4%C2%8Depn%C3%AF%C2%BF%C2%BD/page-1

That looks killer. And I just happen to have some 34/70 and S-189, along with the appropriate Bavaria glass.

A solid malt base--PA, Munich, dark Munich, Vienna will all make a great beer. I liked S-189 in this better than 34/70. Here's another shot of this beautiful beer.

That looks and sounds awesome! Thank you sir! The big malty base keeps this beer from tasting "light" but it drinks like a light beer. So easy to pull a pint or two, or three and not get full while still enjoying a flavorful beer.

Believe it was a brew strong podcast from brewing network from many moons ago, but Palmer and JZ had a podcast about session beers, that was informative.
A quick way to kick down abv is keeping your specialty grains the same and reducing your base malt amounts; in turn, depending on style, reduce your hop additions as well.
IME, if aiming for a beer In the 3.5-4.5% range, its much easier just to make a 10 gallon batch of it, or for 5 gallons, do a no-sparge mash.

The weight loss continues. Today, for the first time in many years, I'm under 200lb (~199.5 lb), and for reference, I'm 6' tall.
Still a tad bit in the "overweight" region in terms of BMI, but the goal is to get down to ~180 or so.
And once my beer sabbatical is over, session/lower-abv beers will be the way to go.
