Made this earlier today for my wife; after the first bite, she immediately asked if we had more ingredients to make more (spoiler alert: we do).
Since we're not going out for ice cream during this pandemic, we needed a make-at-home alternative. I think this might be it.
Deets:
1.5 c heavy cream 0.75 c whole milk 0.5 c cocoa powder 0.33 c cane sugar 0.25 c brown sugar, packed 1tsp vanilla
Steps: (I use a stainless mixing bowl, and chill it in the fridge 15-20 min before making, so everything stays super cold)
- Sift the cocoa powder and cane sugar into mixing bowl; add brown sugar.
- Add whole milk, and mix thoroughly with whisk. Add in heavy cream and vanilla, whisk well.
- Add to ice cream maker, and let mix for 25 minutes.
- Add to freezer-safe container, cover, and let freeze for at least 2 hours before serving.
I use a Cuisinart ice cream/yogurt/sorbet mixer, which until this pandemic hit, had been stowed away in a closet for far too long.
Works great, and I foresee getting a lot more use out of this in the near future.

Bumping this one for a minor update.
After I posted the above version for chocolate ice cream, I came across a recipe for vanilla ice cream. I think that's the new house favorite, at least for my son and me, as I've made 4-5 batches since my original post above.
Same amounts as above for the milk, heavy cream, vanilla, and cane sugar, but remove the cocoa powder and brown sugar.
Makes a vanilla ice cream as good, if not better, than any store-bought vanilla ice cream I can recall. Tasty stuff.
