Found an N95 mask down in the basement (used to use one for respiratory protection when I crush grain on brewday) that is still in great shape.
Got a grocery order to pick up at our local Kroger on Friday evening, and my wife's been worrying about fashioning some kind of facemask for me (I'm flying solo to pick up our stuff) to try to minimize the risk of infection.
The trepidation about going out in public got a little bit lower. Just a little, but every bit helps. Still gotta be careful, but this will hopefully help a bit.

Be careful B. This is supposed to be a rough week for the virus. Congrats on finding the mask.

On the topic of the virus, for awhile there it was pretty brutal to try to isolate because of the weather. I was doing ZOOM calls with people from Texas, Florida, etc. and they were able to get outside and do something which is a huge boost to the mental state. Here it was gray, cool, windy, rainy, etc. for the better part of 2 weeks. Yesterday it was sunny and mid-70s and it really felt great to be able to be outside, have a beer, work in the yard, yell HI! to the neighbors, etc. But then... last night we had a storm. Around 8pm there was a very close lightning strike and the TV and web went out. Trying to isolate with no TV or web is not for the squeamish.

I found a few in the garage and I am lucky my dad has about 15 so I grabbed 4 of them. I am trying to avoid any stores as much as I can.

Do you guys typically wear a mask when you mill grain? I know it's dusty but I have never done that. I have one very wimpy facemask that I wear when I apply some ant spray around the house. Otherwise I really wouldn't think to wear them.

Found another N95 mask in the basement a little while ago while looking for a plastic face shield. My wife went thru dental hygiene school many years ago, and had stowed some of her stuff from school(including said face shield)in the basement. Unfortunately, we couldn't find said stash, but we did find another N95 mask. So we've got that going for us, which is nice.

I guess I just haven't seen a ton of dust kicking up.

Otherwise I really wouldn't think to wear them. I haven't for quite a few years now, after I switched from the old PhilMill I to a BarleyCrusher.
The PhilMill was a decent starter mill, but I never liked how it had to be mounted to a table or countertop, and then just spilled crushed grain and kicking up all sorts of dust. I never did find a good way contain the grain dust that wasn't a giant PITA.
The BC that I (and probably a lot of other brewers) use sits so well on a 5-gal bucket that virtually no dust gets out during crushing.

True story! The way the BC is designed, it does prevent a lot of dust from coming up. I guess that's why I never noticed it. Didn't realize the other systems were so dusty.

I moved from a BC to a 3-roller Crankenstein... plenty of dust here!
