is the AC maybe interfering with the WiFi signal? I considered that because some online articles mentioned interference but that was mostly WRT other wireless signals like cell phones, cordless landline phones, etc. It did not specifically mention the AC but I did wonder. I have actually gone to the furthest reaches of my backyard and streamed video so something is just a bit weird. We are not "AC" people, generally. It has to be very hot and sticky to turn it on but it's been pretty hot and sticky here this summer so it's been on more. I'm going to keep taking mental notes so I can isolate the issue.

The lack of anyone close to me may explain my extended range. No neighbors within 300 yards of me. Then only 1 within the next 1/4 mile and after that 1/2 mile.

I have heard that neighbors with their own wireless products (including garage door openers, etc) will throw a monkey wrench into other devices especially in a congested area. I can only imagine what it's like in a big city where everyone lives on top of each other. In my office I have my wireless router, a wireless mouse and keyboard, a wireless printer, my cell phone and a wireless VOIP phone, other devices using the wifi, etc. and it's a wonder it works with all that shizzle happening at the same time. But this is unusual because the range was GREAT when I first got it and this is the first time I thought it was weird and the only variable was that the AC was on and the house was zipped up.

Ken, how is this working? I am having some router issues, of course it happens on the remote school days, and started to look at these. I was looking at a cheaper alternative than the one you got.

Ken, how is this working? I am having some router issues, of course it happens on the remote school days, and started to look at these. I was looking at a cheaper alternative than the one you got. Mine is working really well. At the time I considered Netgear Orbi and also a Google product but went with Eero. My guess is that the new technology is in every one of these new products and the TP-Link will work well. It's got good reviews and thousands sold so it sounds good. Spread them out throughout the house and check your signal. One thing I noticed that was very strange was that I was originally getting really good signal way, way out in my backyard and I was impressed. When the summer rolled around and we would have the windows closed and AC on, the signal to the backyard was not as good. Could the windows being closed cause the signal to dip? I was able to recreate it over and over and in some cases when I wanted to stream video to my tablet (baseball or whatever), I would go grab the dining room beacon and plug it in outside and it worked perfectly. The app is really easy to use and allows you to assign a name to devices (like MIKE'S PIXEL) instead of seeing a8:5b:ac:a0:b6:c5 or whatever. You also move from beacon to beacon seamlessly and the app tells you which beacon you're connected to. Overall I am very happy.
