I have not been drinking my own beer, haven't brewed in over a month and I have not been hanging in my pub either. Probably just a holiday thing and drinking elsewhere and drinking commercial beer. This past weekend (3-day weekend) I told myself I would brew. I went out on NYE and also started a home project and the more I thought about brewing the less I wanted to do it. I still only have ONE empty keg so I suppose there is no emergency. Every once in awhile I get this sort of indifferent feel about brewing while other times I can't WAIT to brew a batch. HNY Beerheads.

I'm sure it's just a phase, but maybe you can point to something in particular about your process that you are trying to avoid.
I agree with Tommy, keeping the hobby fun is the key.

A funk will happen.. I am in one and have not brewed since August of 2021. I feel like I am forcing it to make time to brew. I know at some point I will want to brew for the fun of it again.
I am sure you will be brewing in no time.

I am sure you will be brewing in no time. Yeah, if anyone knows FUNK it's you.  I *did* drink yesterday. I was at home all day working on my place and I had a lot of beer and it was delicious. I'm very close to finishing my place... like totally done. So I'm sure that's the distraction. |

… I'm very close to finishing my place... like totally done…. No such thing. 😂. I’ve lived in the same home 15 yrs and still have a to-do list. Granted the done list is longer than the to-do but it never ends IMO. I’m always improving my fox hole. |

Granted the done list is longer than the to-do but it never ends IMO. I’m always improving my fox hole. Okay. But! My place needed some work and I knew that going in. I guess I meant that I'm about to finish it to the point where almost all evidence of the prior owners would be gone. They were not clean and they were not good about maintaining a home. When I finish this next part (kitchen) I will have redone the entire place. I did the "pub" first and that's awesome. I completely remodeled three bathrooms (new toilets, new lighting, vanity, showers/tubs, flooring, paint, new fan covers, mirrors, switch plates, etc) and I have painted every room in the place, all new flooring, all new trim work, painted the doors and added new latches, hinges, strike plates, etc. All new lighting everywhere with dimmers. The remaining spots are my walk-in closet which needs paint and some kind of organization system, the garage needs a hug and some storage/organization and finally... I should probably replace the windows, the front door and the slider out to the balcony too. You're right... there's always something. |

Oh and talk about a funk: I did a re-brew today because my last four beers have tasted like @$$. I took apart everything I could see to take apart and cleaned. 🤞 hopefully I got it.

I think this year will be the ‘year of paint’ for me. Deck, interior walls, ceilings, everything. Oh and talk about a funk: I did a re-brew today because my last four beers have tasted like @$$. I took apart everything I could see to take apart and cleaned. 🤞 hopefully I got it. I think my funk is due to my latest project and everything that goes into it. I work all day and have various other responsibilities and when I have time I look at my home projects. I'm actually working on one right now. I still have plenty of beer so when the feeling to brew returns, I'm ready to roll. Sorry about your recent beers and good luck on your projects. |

I brewed today for the first time since November 26, 2022. A cream ale with pale malt, some Vienna, flaked corn, Sterling hops and S-04 yeast. It felt good to get back on it.

I left the fermenter on a wooden crate on the lower level of my townhouse. It's probably 65° down there. Lots of activity today and I can see a huge layer of foam on top of the fermenting beer. When it's slowing down I'll move it upstairs to finish and remove any pesky diacetyl that may have formed. More ales lined up: A "Pub Ale", Memory Lapse Pale Ale, a blonde, a dark ale, a pale ale with Cascade and Willamette and an American Wheat. Cheers Beerheads.

I let this beer go at a pretty low temp but it fermented vigorously. I brought it upstairs to a warmer spot to finish up and hopefully drive off any diacetyl. I'm going to grab a small sample to check for D and see what it says. I went back to my notes from last year at this time. I made seven batches of ale with S-04 and other than one two-week stretch without brewing, all of the batches were made 7 or 8 days apart, which is a nice benefit to making ales in this gravity range. As a result I plan to brew on Sunday and make a bitter/pub ale with pale ale malt, British Crystal, Goldings hops and the S-04.

Curious, have you ever noticed any diacetyl from an S-04 fermentation, or is a D-rest just a matter of course? I always took diacetyl for a lager yeast issue, but I say this as someone who hasn't positively tasted diacetyl in my life.  |
