We're behind because of the weather but my wife started seeds and they alternate between the greenhouse, the pool deck and the house depending on the weather. Tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, some herbs, etc. Otherwise perennials are coming up, shrubs and trees are budding and getting some leaves and the lawn is making its way back. The pool is being opened TODAY!! Cheers Zaph.

Just left Lowes. I am getting the bottom saucers for my pots. 40 of them come out to $60. My wife lets me know the flimsy saucer liners would only be $25 and still hold water. Oi Vey. I put the thick durable saucers in the cart. I lover her, but she will sacrifice quality everytime for price. I was bummed they didn't have white. I had to chose between terra cotta or fugly green. All my pots are actually 5 gallon trash cans I got from IKEA and drilled 5 holes in the bottom. They were $1.20 each.

The terra cotta on bottom goes well with the mulch.

I only have cabbage in the ground. But I have 4 types of tomatoes, a few peppers, squash, and some herbs ready to be transplanted outside.

The deer and rabbits eat nearly anything we plant so I only have a few pots that get moved around and in for winter. I moved my 7ft tall, 3yr old Carolina Reaper plant outside over the weekend. Hopefully will get some mouth searing heat out of it this year. Anyone have a good salsa recipe to share?

I still have when Toonces shared his recipe. I don't grow the same peppers he buys, so it is a little different, but still excellent.
Atomic City hot sauce
30 oz tomato sauce 2.5 cups vinegar 7 tsp onion powder 3 tsp allspice 4 tsp salt 2 tsp garlic powder 3 Tbl lime juice
12 oz peppadews 1 oz thai chilies 1 oz serrano, roasted, peeled 12 oz jalapeno, roasted, peeled 24 oz red anaheim, roasted, peeled (can sub 12 oz green anaheim and 12 oz fresno) 8 oz habanero, roasted, peeled.
run all ingredients through a blender. combine in stew pot, heat until just simmering. cool and bottle.

OOh, that's nice. Is that the ROJO recipe? I still have a few bottles of it.

Yes it is the ROJO. Seeing how we cannot get hatch chilis, I doubt we could ever get his exact flavor profile. I use habanero, serrano, jalapeno, and sweet banana and it makes an excellent sauce. Be careful what friends you give a mason jar to, they will hound you.

Thanks for this. I'll sub reapers for the hab.

Chils how well does keeping a peeper plant through the winter do? I attempted to keep a couple habs in pots, but I screwed it up. When they went dormant, I forgot to water them and they died. What is your winter routine when they go dormant?

I have kept habs in a pot in my house over the winter. I don't remember doing anything special. Watered probably once a week or so.

What is your winter routine when they go dormant? I just kept them watered and they keep growing. Placed to where they get sunlight. My dad gave me the seeds for these from his buddy in SC who said he's never even heard of a pepper plant this old.
