My BXpanded bucket teeth are finally showing up Friday (supposedly). I have some digging to do, so that will be welcome. I ordered it on 4/11, 3 weeks to get it! It would have been nice to tell me when I ordered it that there was a 12-14 day lead time prior to shipment! Don't forget to call JULIE! ... or whatever it's called in your area. Digsafe here and on private property many will not mark. At least that is how it was when I worked for Mass Electric. Mark from the equipment to the edge or the property and that was it.

Here, they come out and each utility has a different colored flag. Gas, electric, phone, cable, the village for sewers, etc. Within 24 hours your yard looks like a pride parade.

We would not mark it if we did not own it.

So if someone wanted to plant a tree or build a deck or put in a pool... what would they do to ensure they didn't hit anything? Know where your crap is or call a third party locator. People did not like it but we were not going to take any liability on equipment we did not own. If they did not like that, they really did not like it when we would tell them they had no power because the underground wire to their house was bad and they had to dig it up and fix it.

If they did not like that, they really did not like it when we would tell them they had no power because the underground wire to their house was bad and they had to dig it up and fix it. Mmm, interesting. Everything here is 3rd party locator... J.U.L.I.E.... Joint Utility Locating Information for Excavators. When you call them, they guarantee they will be there within 48 hours and they mark every utility. The village is also alerted and they come out and flag any underground sewers or other village infrastructure. I knew where my electric line was running when they put my pool in. The next year I was planting a new Magnolia and it happened to be when my sprinkler guy was there. He saw me digging and he said, "I have a much better shovel... do you want to use it?". Of course! He hands it to me and I start digging. About 5 minutes later he says, "I should have told you to be careful with that... notice that it's all metal". I look at it and sure enough there is no wood to it at all. Then I realized that I was VERY close to where the electric was flagged the year before and I froze. Now that would have been a fireworks display.

Looks like nothing has changed. www.digsafe.com/faqs.phpDig Safe® is a not-for-profit clearinghouse that notifies participating utility companies of your plans to dig. In turn, these utilities (or their contract locating companies) respond to mark out the location of their underground facilities. Dig Safe is a free service, funded entirely by its member utility companies. (Note: Dig Safe does not mark utility lines.) Member utilities companies are responsible to mark only the facilities that they own or maintain. Private underground pipes and cables may not be owned or maintained by member utility companies, therefore they are unable to locate them. It is your responsibility to investigate if any privately owned utilities are in the area. Click here for a list of private utility locators.

Big weekend here project-wise. I had a metric ass-ton of mulch delivered and I spent all day slinging it around the yard. Everything looks good. I got some new LED lights that I'm going to wire into the low-voltage system, mount them in the shed and use a switch to be able to turn the lights on and off. Two LED bulbs the equivalent of 50W each. That should do it. The pool is open too and needs a vacuum. Then the grass needs to be cut. I also have some cleanup from the mulch project to do tomorrow. The weather is supposed to be money so that helps. The pool deck really needs a pressure wash too. Then later in the day I need to send a beer to a keg and then filter water and weigh out grains for a brewday on Sunday. It feels good to get outside.

Perfect day to finish cutting stone, nice mild temp and a stiff breeze blowing to carry the stone dust away. No respirator needed. This feels a long way from the 90 degree july days without a hint of breeze and being covered in sweat and stone dust.
