Denny, you mentioned the Cryo Pop blend one time. Would you recommend them? I have a pound in the cart but haven't pulled the trigger yet. The free shipping is a bonus. Which cryo pop blend did you get? Any of them really enhance tropical fruit character, but some focus more on one particular flavor/aroma. For instance, cryopop m is meant to add mango specifically.
ETA: looks like only the original blend is available to homebrewers. That's not a problem....it's great!

I cant find any Chinook cryo that isnt years old Possibly Chinook didn’t sell that well in 2018-2019 so production was limited or even eliminated 2020-2022. 🤷♂️ pure speculation on my part. I don’t think I’ve ever used Chinook late in the boil, whirlpool, or dry hop. I’ve only used it as the bedrock of the bitterness and used other hops later in the stream.

Chinook is a killer finishing hop. Chinook from MI is different (pineapple) but still great.

Here's a case of a hop issue: I made an American Wheat with S-04. I hit it with about 25 IBUs of Loral at the start of the boil. It's supposed to be smooth and refreshing. Apparently my Loral is aging even though it's been vac-sealed and in the freezer. The 25 IBUs is tasting more like 15. It's not undrinkable but it's not what I designed. I could add some hops to a bag and drop it into the keg for a few days or just drink it. Even if you think you're storing your hops properly, getting old is a bitch!

I have an IPA that is supposed to have 70 IBU but tastes like about 30. I can only drink that beer on certain days (some days it’s drinkable some days I can’t stand the sweetness). I plan to throw it out as soon as I need the keg for something else. The hops were (2020) and the hop flavor and aroma seem pretty good. I often wonder if I mismeasured the early addition.

If these Loral pellets had looked or smelled bad then I would have reworked the recipe. The problem sometimes is that the hops seem just fine... a nice dark green look, aromatic, etc. I was thinking the whole time too that I needed to make sure the hop character wasn't muted because S-04 does not attenuate as well as some other strains and there were no other hop additions in the beer. It's a shame because I was looking forward to this. I made a similar beer last year that got rave reviews from all who drank it. It's also possible that my taste buds were just shot last night. It's happened before.

Look into the HSI (Hop Storage Index) for hops you buy.

If you want to try to save it, you could look into isomerized hop extract

This is part of the reason why I have hardly any open packs of hops in my freezer. Currently the only open pack I have is Magnum, which will be burned up next weekend. I’ve adjusted most of my recipes so that I’m using full packages, and not sending leftovers to wither away for some undetermined amount of time. On the rare occasion that I do have to store a pack of hops (usually a bittering hops), I make sure that it gets used up quickly. Of course, I buy hops in 1 or 2oz packages, so I’m sure I’m paying more.
