Gotta say Belma hops sound good to me. I never had them that I know of. I certainly never brewed with them.

Mmm, canned Belma. Funny you mention this because I happen to be in "purge mode" around parts of my house and I just tossed out cases and cases of dusty 12-ounce and 22-oune bottles that haven't been used in years. I still have three more cases and plan to toss those too but I ran out of space in the recycling bin. If I ever package beer in anything but a keg going forward... it WILL be with a canner.  |

I will only bottle special requests beer for family members. I really, really hate bottling.

I only bottle small test batches or specialty beers that don’t warrant a 5 gal batch.

I bet. But much, much pricier. I would like that option but I won't pay it. I'm a cheap bastard. I still use an Igloo cooler and the same Polarware pot I bought about 20 years ago.

My other hobby is pocket knives. I sold a bunch of them to buy then canner at the time. On hobby paying for another. Plus, I like shinny things...lol |

At some point I probably need Drez to outline that setup with some specifics so I know exactly what's happening there. You have a keg of finished/carbed beer, a CO2 tank, etc. You filled the can and then move it over to the sealer, etc. How much of this is manual and how much is automatic? What is the chance that I already have all of the necessary components? What are some of the caveats especially regarding oxidation? I might need a little direction but I could see myself doing it at some point.

I might need a little direction but I could see myself doing it at some point. I have not drank old cans to notice if I have any oxidation issues. I have some old cans kicking around that I have not treated well so I will opened one and see how the color looks. As to what is going on here. I keg and carbonate the beer as normal. This beer was on tap and I just removed the disconnect and hooked up the one to the filler. I have a separate CO2 tank to make it easy to purge the cans. The can clips onto the device on the right and I purge that with about 10 psi of CO2 for a 10-15 count. after that I lift the lever so the beer starts to flow. You can adjust the flow with the valve that is on the right of the filler. Once I get it dialed in after a can or two it is good for the batch. Takes about 20 seconds to fill since I like to go slow and minimize foam. This set up is jus like a counter pressure bottle filler. Once filled I shut off the beer valve and release the can and put the end on and move over to the canner. Mine is manual, I have had it hooked up to a motor before but it takes 20 cranks by hand and I have the time while the other can is filling. I do not use this every batch but it is nice to have the option. |

Cool. Thanks Drez. This is not a priority for me but yesterday I dumped the rest of my bottles so this is the first time in 20+ years that I have NOT had empty bottles in my house to use for brewing. At this moment I have my 10 kegs and I have THREE growlers and that's it. Or is it FOUR growlers? Anyway... a canner would be cool, I think.
