Update...I got the discount code from HBT and placed my order today. I believe it came to about $12.50 for the Inkbird, which is a very good price. Thanks, OldMan! I think that is what I paid for mine. Well worth it.

When it arrives, use the Inkbird and Thermapen at the same time and see how they both take the temp of the same liquid. It would be interesting to see how good/fast/accurate the Inkbird was. For $12.50, I say Inkbirds for everyone!.

Similar response time? My Thermapen reliably stabilizes within 3 seconds.

Mine is faster than the thermapen. To be fair I my TP is about 8+ years old.

I bought 2 with the HBT code and 2 more with the same discount that IB offered on Amazon for a "one day sale" promotion I knew I should have attempted to get 2...oh well, I still have my ThermaPen but will need to open it up and fix that gasket. The Inkbird just arrived and it's a pretty nice piece of equipment. Doesn't feel as sturdy as the ThermaPen but it doesn't need to be. I threw both in a cup of hot tap water and there are differences. I will do a more scientific test at some point with ice water or boiling water and calibrate as needed. The ThermaPen is probably 5 years old so it may have drifted. The Inkbird seemed to settle a bit quicker but it's n=1 at this point. I do like the backlight on the Inkbird and will probably equally like the magnetic back. BTW, OldMan, you can set the ThermaPen to read in 1/10th degree increments if desired.

View AttachmentPopping open the TP is easy and theres nothing thats going to spring out and hit you in the eye- plenty of YT vids on TP repair. that's not my set up ,I stole that pic from HBT. I had a special problem with my TP in that I damaged the molded plastic stop when I bent the probe back past its limits.I broke it's back jack.I had to do some internal surgery to get it to turn on 90% of the time .I still have to fiddle with it to work. It's a mechanical problem. The IB works great for me so far- I can see a problem with the bat. running out and can't find the usb cable to charge it up or the bat life is short. Turkey time is coming up and the IB will replace the TP in the kitchen this year.

At the moment I have two Thermapens in good working order. I feel like they "bounce" a little bit during the taking of the temp. Could it stabilize in three seconds? Maybe. But it feels like it takes longer. But if the InkBird is that inexpensive, reads the temp as well and might actually be faster... that's a win-win-win. Good information. And what's with this HBT promo code? Is it ongoing limited time? Do you buy directly from Inkbird with it? Cheers and thanks.

There's a thread over at HBT that you need to reply to...the Inkbird rep will send you a code to use on Amazon. Supposedly, it's a user-specific code so it can't be shared but I can't confirm that. Seems to be a limited time offer but they've done them in the past as well.
