I don’t think the charger vents gas but I believe the battery does. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk I do not smell any rotten eggs. That's because you don't drink hefeweisen In all seriousness, I have a Battery Tender brand charger/maintainer and I believe there's a note in the literature about using in a ventilated area. Most garages aren't air-tight (at least mine isn't) so that's likely sufficient ventilation.

Lead acid batteries off-gas hydrogen and oxygen while charging. Both lighter than air, so they don't pool in low areas and displace oxygen in the air like carbon monoxide. Could be a concern in a tightly sealed area with no ventilation.
The amount released during trickle charging probably isn't significant.
