Got a free Lincoln 225AC tombstone a couple weeks ago. A widow my inlaws know gave it to my FIL, said her husband told her it was "no good" It had a 3 angle blade dryer cord spliced on the factory cord with white black and green hooked, red snipped. I got the proper 2 blade and D ground end, took the back off it to make sure red was snipped and wired in the correct plug leaving the spliced cord off. I only had 115V in my garage so I put in a double 50A breaker to give me 230V and ran an 8AWG wire straight down the wall and put a surface mount 230V receptacle 12" up from the floor so I didn't waste welder cord length going up the wall. Got her hooked up, put a 7018AC rod in the stinger and 150A on the welder and ran a bead smooth as buttah' on the first strike. Fixed my brush hog hitch with it and it welds really nice.

I told the inlaws that I wanted to giver her some money for the welder and they said it was fine not to. They had helped her out recently with paying to have some family flown out here and she just sold the house for $600k.

Nice, I love the hum when you turn on a buzzbox like that. My dad recently asked me if I wanted his Millermatic 175. He has a couple other welders and does not use this one anymore. That and a set of oxy torches will be moving into my garage shortly. Thankfully because of the brew rig I already have 240v in my garage.
Nice find chils!

I have a Miller 130 XP I run flux core in but I've been needing something for thicker stuff for awhile with all the fab I do. I wasn't sure on how to run the 230V but it was very easy to do. Getting the welder was the push I needed to wire it up.
Do you have any projects in mind for your Miller?

I want to work on building the kids and electric offroad(backyard) go cart. You may laugh at electric but the reason for that is I do not want to hear the engine running all the time. I also have plans for a third smoker. My dad is planning on working on it this winter but if not I will tackle that as well. I have not welded much in the last many years but it will be fun to have one in the garage so I can just do what I need to do when the urge comes.

No running engine noise, no messing around with gas going bad, and great torque. Having the welder on hand is awesome when ya need it.

See, this is why I like to have contact with brewers. They're tinkerers and they know their shit. I, on the other hand, am not really a tinkerer. At least not to this degree. I almost understood some of what Chils said in the OP. Sort of. Kind of. But maybe if I hang out with you guys long enough I'll become a tinkerer too.

I could take you in for a week and have you cutting, welding, cussing, and digging steel out of your hands like a pro Ken. I've always said I can work on anything, I can even fix some of it.

Someday I'm going to take you up on that. You'll need to have one of your Czech beers around and then we'll ask your wife for her best pinto bean recipe. Then we'll weld something.

I wish I had (a) welding skills and (2) a welder!
Yes, I know I did (a) and (2). Was trying to be funny.

My dad taught me how to weld, Stick, Mig and Brazing. I taught myself tig by just sitting down and messing up. Shortly after I graduated college a co-worker wanted a big rotisserie grill. This was set up to do a whole steamship round. I think it was 6 ( or 8) feet long and about 3 wide. I did 80% of the welding (stick) after work. I got really good by the end.
