Ken,
Interested to hear your take. A friend mentioned last night that he would be surprised if MLB didn't shut down the season by the end of the week.
Thoughts?

Maybe they should penalize the Cards and relegate them to last place in the division, and forfeit their 2 wins, as well as all future games, so that the Division could even attempt to carry on.

Yeah, so the Marlins and the Cardinals have the 'Rona. I'm not quite sure how it happened but I agree that the season seems a little flimsy right now. Of course, the Cubs have started 8-2 so it would figure that they make it to 15-20 games and then just call off the season. I'm not sure how a team addresses this... send those that test positive home (or to the hospital or a hotel or whatever) and call up reinforcements. But someone else on the team could be asymptomatic and spread it around again. FTR, I am one of those who think that trying to reopen too quickly is foolish. It's easy for me to say because my job has not been impacted but every step towards reopening is a potential for sliding back down so that we have to start all over again. At this point it seems pretty clear: This thing is not leaving until we take more robust steps.

As an Angels fan, I'm all for pulling the plug on the year of the Rona season.

We had a friend whose son had to get a test for his new job and he tested positive. Totally asymptomatic. Rumor I heard was that some Cards and staff went to a casino. But... all of these teams have deep talent pools that they *could* pull from, but those guys have to be clean too. I like how the NBA is handling it, but I don't think that is feasible with the mlb roster size.

I like how the NBA is handling it, but I don't think that is feasible with the mlb roster size. I saw last night that the Marlins were cleared to travel to NY to play the Mets. That happened because they placed a high number of their players on the IL and then brought up a ton of other players. Don Mattingly said that he has guys on his roster right now that he has never met. Also, I somehow envisioned this being an innocent thing... someone had accidental contact with a media person or someone who works at the stadium, etc. and spreads it around. If some of the Cardinals went to a casino that tells you that there are no real controls in place and the Cardinals can feck right off if that's how it went. I assume a lot of work went into getting just this 60-game season to happen. It would be cool if they could finish it. Monday night I watched the Cubs beat the Royals and then at 9:30 the Blackhawks faced off against the Oilers. Seemed like old times!!

Like I suggested... the Cards should forfeit the season and be placed at the bottom of the division for their mis-deeds. It's not only a disservice to the fans, but it really messes with the other teams to actually NOT play competitive game and keep up to speed.

Your Brewer loyalty and division divisiveness is showing. You should be feeling exactly the same! But you can't beat your enemies if they're sitting at home. For the game to be great you need everyone to play.

In a perfect world, I agree.
But... it's not about putting out a great product this year. It's about having uninterrupted years of continuous MLB play. They even squeezed in shortened seasons following strikes. So... if 90% of the teams are able to play, no it won't be a great season... but it will be a season.
Let's face it the Cards players and staff that went to the casino fucked it up for the team, and potentially the entirety of MLB. I don't know what the deal was with Tampa... so am not going to go there just yet.

It will already be one of those asterisk years. Whoever wins the WS this season (if we get that far) will forever be known as the team who won during the 'rona... Guy #1: Oh my stars, the San Diego Fathers won the world series!Guy #2: HA! Rona Trophy! Doesn't count!! I am glad to see baseball. I consider these to be real games. During a Cubs broadcast they were knocking around the 'level of play' and one of the analysts said, "No, this is good baseball. We're seeing the same level of play that we would see in a real game" and the other guys were quick to say, "AHEM. This *is* a real game!". It's weird but it's baseball and I'm glad it's back. As mentioned, I watched the Cubs and Blackhawks the other night. Hooray. Tonight the Cubs @ Cards at 7:15 and the Oilers @ Blackhawks (in Edmonton ) at 5:45pm. NOICE!

I enjoy watching the Angels play even though they are struggling. Baseball is the only thing I watch on TV anymore. I miss watching the people in the stands
