No experience but I can't imagine there are any issues...those bugs are nature's recyclers. Like you note, probably don't want them in the house but trying to get rid out outdoor insects is an exercise in futility. We live on a wooded lot and routinely find termites under wood that's sitting on the earth for an extended period of time.

On our front porch I have a large firewood "ring" like this... When I go to grab wood from that ring I see the dust there too. My guess is that they're interested in the wood, not the house. If I bring them inside I suppose there could be an issue but even then... they're in the wood doing whatever it is they do. Might I see a bit of the sawdust on the floor? I might.

Lots of bugs get into firewood including termites so I don't keep any near the house like that. Mine is away and covered by tarps to keep it dry. If it's really cold and we're burning for days on end I'll fill my steel dump cart and park it in the garage.
Spraying pesticide on firewood is a no-no as it can be very dangerous to inhale the fumes when it burns.

I think I got all my mice. Caught 3 total and haven't had a peep since. Traps still have the bait in them. Thanks for the tip on the Cheerios Ken. That got the last one.

I have not caught one in a long time either. Yes, the weather has been warm so maybe they're not looking around to find a way to get in but since I put the steel wool into the weep holes, not a single mice in the traps I have set... garage, outside near the front of the house and basement. Chils and I have killed all mice! They're extinct!

I thought I set it so that you had to be a member to post but you could read posts as a guest. It doesn't seem to be a problem since I do not see anyone 'unknown' posting but interesting nonetheless.

I was on my wife's PC and not logged in but I had the "quote" button active so I tried it. It made me go thru a captcha check before allowing the post.

I've seen on many commercial construction jobs, the brick-layers used a stainless steel mesh cut to fit the weep holes. I'm sure your favorite hardware box store carries it.

Chils and I have killed all mice! They're extinct! Still have not caught a mouse in a long time. I have 13 or 14 traps set between the shed, garage and basement. I put that steel wool in the weep holes with very little confidence it would do any good. I did a little additional surveillance in the basement and I found a spot that I think is a common path for them and it's on a beam that is flanked by drywall so I can put a trap there and the mice would have no way around it. I did catch a mouse in that spot right when I put that trap there but not since. There are three other traps down there, all quiet. The garage was busy for awhile there but nothing now. Strange and it's gotten cold so this is usually their cue.

I had one of my traps with the cheerios in it have some of the bait nibbled but no snapped trap--he musta been slick. But no other catches since my last post.

I had two traps licked clean by the little f-ers... They're very clever. Or else they're really dumb and just had dumb luck. These traps have a hard time getting mice that weigh a half ounce or something. Try the cereal super-glued to the trap trick. I think the mice would prefer to grab the food and then disappear with it as opposed to being out in the open. When they go for the piece of cereal and can't move it, they try a little harder and that activity is likely to spring the trap. I'm still just surprised that every trap I have engaged right now has bait and has not been tampered with. It's probably been 2+ months. In related news, I was at my local Ace Hardware the other day and they're in the process of rearranging the store. One big shelving unit must have just been moved and I looked at the spot where it stood and there were sunflower seed shells all over that spot along with mouse poop. I just stood there for a couple seconds thinking about that. Up near the register there is all kinds of food, snacks, cookies, candies, pretzels, obviously sunflower seeds, etc. and those feckers come out at night and have a feast. I think a flamethrower is the only appropriate measure here.

~7 yrs ago this cat wandered up while I was bbq-ing and brewing on the big deck. He was out in the yard talking trash so I chunked him a piece of meat. Next thing I know he was in my lap. He’s been hangin out ever since patrolling the area daily. I am always waking up to a mouse, mole, rabbit, squirrel, etc near the back door.
That and we have rat snakes I see from time to time slithering around outside that seem to be very healthy for some reason.
